Whoever said it was generic is going crazy, the song is handcrafted and doesn't follow the standard EDM song structure.

When they first kick off the chorus at 1:20 with the secret love part, they incorporate what's called "syncopation". Basically it's where the rhythm becomes off-beat. The bass drum stays on beats 1234, with claps on beats 2 and 4 as with most music.
However the synth and the vocals 'she' parts are all on off-beats. Not on 1234, but on the "and's/+". Remember that the bass drum is always on the big beats 1234.
The syncopation actually starts on 'e' and repeats every three 16th notes. Here it is contrasted against the snare and bass. In this case, S, C, and L represent the three syllables, "Se/She", "cret", and "Love".

BD = Bass Drum
The vocals take a break after "Love" on beat 4. However, the synth keeps the polymeter going into the next two bars. The vocals join back in on the 'and' of beat 1 (with question marks representing the Japanese I don't know):
After this, the polymeter resets (but doesn't perfectly resolve) and the four bars repeat. This isn't exactly in layman's terms or anything, but I thought it might be useful for anyone looking for further explanation
