I made that crossover counter argument because that's the argument you were making for it haha. You didn't mention Grammys at all before so I didn't either
Someone Like You has gotten just as much praise, if not more, for her authenticity while singing it. And while RITD may have a more widely memorable video, I dare say SLY would be considered her signature song.
And Ichi, I never said RITD sucked. It's
far from it, and actually one of my very favorite songs of hers. Nor did I mention anything in regards to one being "sad" and the other a "**** you"--that's totally irrelevant to which one's better. Read again before you start trying to shade me.
SLY comes out on top in my book, because I'm valuing what I see as writing quality over sales (though SLY's were still great), something even the Grammys doesn't always do as of late. Regardless, if you do place high value on sales and chart performance, SLY totally came out on top of RITD sales-wise in Adele's home country of the UK. Also, RITD never even hit #1 on the UK charts, meanwhile SLY spent 5 weeks there.
Finally, SLY is Adele's favorite from 21, the song she felt she really believed herself on, and the one about which she said "I don't think I'll ever write a
nicer or better song". Artists don't just discount the quality of everything they've ever written previously or will write in the future without reason and really believing it, you know
