And if I remember correctly, Kelly made a few changes to SUBG before deciding she was okay with it. Let's not give Clive the credit for Kelly and the producer's work.
But I am glad Clive battled Kelly for BOY. Let's also remember that Kelly brought BOY to the table for discussion for her debut album. I don't know about you, but I'm extremely glad that BOY ended up on Breakaway instead of Thankful. BOY would not have had the same response nor success imo. So I'm glad there was a battle for BOY and Kelly succeeded in getting it on her second album.
How can Kelly change that song if it wasnt given to her? Especially the producers don't want that song to be sung by her until Clive forced them and completely agreed until they heard Kelly sing it. Im not giving all the credit to him but let's not take away all of it.
A songs are fixed to fit the artist. Prime example will be WDKY. Remember how it was more R&B? Kelly came along and completely revamped it to her style of singing aka rock tinged pop, her forte.

same with Don't Let Me Stop You. (though I hope Kelly had nothing to do with that ) and just like Kelly had them change the lyrics to MLWSWY before agreeing to record it. And guess what? It hit #1.

She made it guitar and bass driven. And lord knows all the dance songs have heavy beat. Our queen was so on top of the trends.
I forgot Kelly also rewrote sizable parts of WDKY as well as Einstein but didn't ask for writing credits. Not only is our queen super-talented, but she's also generous
I'm glad Kelly has a good mix of writing/changing songs and also letting producers/writers do their work.

Those wouldn't have fit on the album as they are and I would hate for them to have sounded different from the flawless tracks we have now. Thy all could've been together on an EP before your fictional album's release though.
Noone really does cohesive albums anymore tbh. It can be an imaginary double disk, half happy half sad. It can be called

It's not about cohesion, it's about the production. The My December tracks have a rawness, almost unfinished quality to them that make the songs endearing and more heartfelt (to me at least). While the two albums afterwards are clearly pop songs produced and polished for pop perfection.

Risky is good. Bland and generic is bad If the risk pays off, it'll help this album sell better than IFY could ever hope to do. IFY is one of those songs that people download without checking out the album, turning Kelly into a singles artist

Dark Side isn't a risk though, it's the 2nd or 3rd most popular song on the album. It's catchy, has decent lyrics, a good heavy beat behind it and is coming off one of Kelly's most successful singles ever.
But YLM is a huge risk though, I would prefer it to close the era because I think LMD would have more success/is a clearer success.
I totally agree ylm is a huge risk. I don't know but i find the lyrical content of ylm is too heavy for top 40 stations. I don't see how it would smash. people on top 40 radio would go for fun/uptempo kinda songs and straightforward songs or just a straight out sad song. Obviously it would smash on hot ac and ac regardless.
