JEIBERT's Best of 2012 | aLBUMs: #41-#40 + sINGLEs: #77-#75
*Lay-out suits best in LiveWire color scheme
NICKI MINAJ - "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded"
| Released: April 2, 2012
Genre: Hip hop, dance-pop
Label: Young Money, Cash Money, Universal Republic
Producer: Alex da Kid, Alex P, Andrew "Pop" Wansel, Benny Blanco, BlackOut Movement, Carl Falk, Cirkut, David Guetta, DJ Diamond Kuts, Dreamlab, Dr. Luke, Flip, Hit-Boy, RedOne, T-Minus, Nikhil S.
TOP 5 TRACKS:
01. Whip It
02. Marilyn Monroe
03. Pound the Alarm
04. Starships
05. Va Va Voom
Probably among the female artists earlier this year, this was the most bashed album of the year at some point! Disappointing for Nicki especially her album sales were significantly lower compared to her debut. I cannot blame the fans though. However, as a follower of her music, this album made me enjoyed her work and at some point, and resulted this as being my jam for a week. But I admit, havent played this album at all anymore and I only pick the songs which I play unto. But never mind that, it made this high because I love Nicki and her effort and the pop songs were indeed great! Havent heard the reup yet so this one's reloaded only!
Last Year's #41: Kelly Rowland - "Here I Am" |
LAWSON - "Chapman Square"
| Released: October 22, 2012
Genre: Pop, pop rock, soft rock
Label: Polydor, Global Talent
Producer: John Shanks, Duck Blackwell, Ki Fitzgerald, Paddy Dalton, Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub
TOP 5 TRACKS:
01. Standing in the Dark
02. When She Was Mine
03. Taking Over Me
04. You'll Never Know
05. The Girl I Knew
Their singles have already placed on the songs list on the Best of countdown so far! Now it's time for debut album to land on the albums list of my favorites this year! Anyways, the album title refers to the street where the vocalist Andy used to have a home together with his ex Molly (The Saturdays member), and thus, was the place where the heart of the album was created. Listening to the album, we can definitely tell there's lot of memories that happened there not just love and heartbreak but the core of bond and friendship among the members! By the way, their songs are very radio friendly and an easy ear turner among the genre.
Last Year's #40: LMFAO - "Sorry for Party Rocking" |
RECAP: 65-64 | 63 | 62-61 | 60 | 59-58 | 60 | 57 | 56-55 | 54 | 53-52 | 51 | 50-49 | 48 | 47-46 | 45 | 44-43 | 42
CHER LLOYD - "Want U Back"
| "...''Boy you can say anything you wanna, I don't give a shh, no one else can have ya, I want you back, I want you back, Wa-want you, want you back, Uh, I broke it off thinking you'd be cryin', Now I feel like shh looking at you flyin', I want you back, I want you back, Wa-want you, want you back, Uh..."
Album: Sticks + Stones
Release Date: February 19, 2012 (UK); May 22, 2012 (U.S.)
Genre: Dance-pop, bubblegum pop, synthpop
Length: 3:32 (album version); 3:43 (featuring Astro)
Label: Syco, Sony
Writer(s): Shellback, Savan Kotecha
Producer(s): Shellback
Weeks on Chart: 8 weeks
Peak Position: #02
Wow, I was glad that this was the song that took her off for a success stateside! It's one of the catchiest songs this year and Cher's vibrant personality just owns the track. There are two music videos for this song one for the main version and one for the other single that features X-factor contestant Astro. Well, these two charted separately so when the new music video came out, that's the time I really fell in love with this song and it soared high as #02.
Last Year's #77: JoJo - "Disaster" |
LANA DEL REY - "Born to Die"
| "...Don’t make me sad, don’t make me cry, Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough, I don’t know why, Keep making me laugh, Let’s go get high, The road is long, we carry on, Try to have fun in the meantime, Come on take a walk on the wild side, Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain, You like your girls insane, Choose your last words, this is the last time, Cause you and I, we were born to die.."
Album: Lana Del Rey and Born to Die
Release Date: December 30, 2011
Genre: Trip hop, chamber pop, indie pop, sadcore
Length: 4:46
Label: Stranger, Interscope, Polydor
Writer(s): Elizabeth Grant, Justin Parker
Producer(s): Justin Parker, Emile Haynie
Weeks on Chart: 12 weeks
Peak Position: #05
Its sad to see that "Video Games" didnt make it, but instead the single that really put Lana's introduction is the title track. I was really hooked on this song thus it spent 12 weeks on the chart and peaking at the Top 5. The video embarks the start of her series of cinematic music video films that are one of the best videographies of the year! As usual, the song talks about the inevitable final destination of the life of a person, which is death.
Last Year's #76: Diddy Dirty Money - "Coming Home" (feat. Skylar Grey) |
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE - "Never Let Me Go"
| "...Never let me go, Never let me go, Never let me go, Never let me go...And the arms of the ocean are carrying me, And all this devotion was rushing out of me, In the crushes of heaven for a sinner like me, But the arms of the ocean delivered me...."
Album: Ceremonials
Release Date: April 2, 2012
Genre: Baroque pop, indie pop, soul
Length: 4:31
Label: Universal Island
Writer(s): Florence Welch, Paul Epworth, Tom Hull
Producer(s): Paul Epworth
Weeks on Chart: 8 weeks
Peak Position: #03
Another song that I gave a late chance, I just discovered its epicness as it was not my favorite Ceremonial track. But finally, I learned to appreciate it. Now, I consider it as of one the most emotional tracks off the album. Hence, it was Florence's best ballad yet! Her vocals on this one really gave me chills starting from the calm opening but especially on the ending as the background vocals echoes the hook all throughout. These moments are life! As for the video, it gave me Bjork and the band that occupy this spot last year, Evanescence teas but I just cant understand the meaning of it, but hey, epic visuals as well!
Last Year's #75: Evanescence - "What You Want" |
RECAP: 125-123 | 122-120 | 119-117 | 116-114 | 113-111 | 110-108 | 107-105 | 104-102 | 101-99 | 98-96 | 95-93 | 92-90 | 89-87 | 86-84 | 83-81 | 80-78
