I think it'll be a sequel that takes place in Gen 7 with new pokemon & starters & a new region Spain/Germany. And the post game will be visiting Kalos, thought some train or tunnel, and getting the remaining 8 badges.
The span between gen 5 and 6 was 3 years too so it's not that odd for talk of a new gen. Sylveon was announced in like Jan of 2013. It would just be weird for them to move on to a new gen with Zygarde and Volcanion just sitting there.
Although, Zygarde is about to be in the TCG so maybe his stuff will just be focused on in the anime.
I think if it is connected to XY then we'll get souther Kalos.
Tho i still wonder what they'll do with the strange souvenir. Cause it couldn't be from South Kalos since it's not exactly far away from Kalos.

If X&Y featured a bunch of the Gen 1 legends, then I think Sun & Moon would do the same for Gen 2. The legendary dogs will be running around post game and you catch Ho-Oh or Lugia sometime too.
Mix this with Mangina, the new Zygarde forms, and Volcanion and that's a good mix of legends

It's from south Kalos and somehow caused an explosion probably where Kiloude is located now. Oh and Pyramid King Brandon is chasing it through all kinds of regions
