So sad to see John Carter flopping right now. It was poorly promoted. The trailer was ****** as hell and the title of the movie doesn't really catch attention. 'Princess of Mars' would have made it sound a bit more pleasant or just plain 'Gates of Mars'.
The movie itself was great though. The effects, the actors, and the balance of the story work really well. I wasn't even interested to watch it but my friends forced me. And hell, I was surprised to see how good this movie is. Truly a popcorn flick.
I have a feeling that the strong anticipation and word of mouth (100% at rotten tomatoes!) would propel THG to go upto 300 million on its domestic final gross.
Disney's John Carter set to be biggest flop in history with $200m loss
DISNEY'S John Carter is set to be the biggest box office flop in history following the studio's revelation that it is expecting to lose $200million (£126million) on the sci-fi film. Disney is very disappointed in the film's performance at the box office.
A statement released by Disney said: "In light of the theatrical performance of John Carter ($184million global box office), we expect the film to generate an operating loss of approximately $200 million during our second fiscal quarter ending March 31.
