I know, but sometimes their points are usually LESS than the song ends up doing.
For example, Born This Way had 6.6M points on Mediatraffic and then did 9M WW according to IFPI. Circus had 2.5M points and ended up doing at least 5M WW according to IFPI [3M of which was from the US alone]. Work Bitch did at least 200K WW first week and had less than 200K points when it debuted.
Basically, I'd say that for post-digital era singles, it's OK to use Mediatraffic as an estimation for sales. For pre-digital era singles that relied heavily on physical sales, then I wouldn't use Mediatraffic as a representation of actual sales.

According to this thread, Britney's points on Mediatraffic for all her singles from 2006 - present are the following:
32,600,400 Britney Spears
Points as primary artist: 31,864,500
Points as feature artist: 735,900
Mediatraffic is a pretty solid way to estimate WW single sales, so is it safe to say she's sold give or take ~30M singles since 2006?

LOL.
Gimme More: 1,734,706
Piece of Me: 1,811,278
Break The Ice: 754,138
Womanizer: 3,391,484
Circus: 3,054,994
If U Seek Amy: 1,288,393
Radar: 569,413
Hold It Against Me: 1,571,002
Till The World Ends: 2,815,099
I Wanna Go: 1,673,026
Criminal: 317,030
Ooh La La: 152,545
Scream & Shout: 3,266,927
Total - 22,400,175
Well it's 22 million in just the U.S.
and points are based on radio and sales. so you can't use that as an indication that it sold 30 million. 8 million from all of those singles outside of the U.S. total isn't right.

Maybe because sales are %50 and Airplay %50 too? I'm not sure

IFPI is not a good representative of a song's popularity, either. Not only do they include ringtones and music videos, but South Korea used to eff up their charts with songs that cost 2 cents and were given away from a mobile site called freezone while still counting for their charts. It's why you'll see album tracks sell hundreds of thousands of copies in South Korea.

Britney Spears, who served alongside Simon Cowell on the panel of The US version of The X Factor has made the Top 15 with each of the seven studio albums she issued between 1999 and 2011, but pulls up well short with eighth, Britney Jean, which debuts this week at number 34 (12,959 sales). First single Work B**ch! became Spears' 23rd Top 10 single only last month but did so primarily because it was held back for several weeks, allowing pre-release orders to build. It performed very poorly once that week was over however, falling 7-37-66-97. It enjoys a modest recovery this week, bouncing to number 77 (3,525 sales).
