If they had released "Maneater" here, I would have strongly disagreed with that.

well, I do. Anything in 'Folklore' is x2 better than Promiscuous, and the video really disapointted me and it was like saying "look at me, now I'm just another rnb/hip hop singer with an album produced by the neptunes"
Maneatear is fine though.

I found Nelly's album is pretty over-produced and so commercial. I liked it but she is faking it this time.

Anyways, I wish Mariah Carey would hurry up and debut with "Fly Like A Bird"

It's bubbling under since forever. I hate this bitch now that she decided to ignore this single with no promotion ,no video. She deserves the "Say Somethin'" flop.

Before ITunes was such a big addition.. If her song would have been able for download i'm sure it would've opened with 1
Before ITunes downloads influenced the chart, the song would have debuted at number 15, the biggest airplay debut since 2001. Take the downloads out, like the use to have it, and it would've been the highest debuting song since MJs You rock my world in 2001
You understand now?

I don't understand the hype on "Deja Vu." I really haven't heard it that much. Paris Hilton's "Stars Are Blind" is circulating more around here. As for Mariah Carey, Mazen is right! That song has been sitting there for ages now!!! She should have ended the legacy that is The Emancipation Of Mimi with "Fly Like A Bird," not the flop that is "Say Somethin.'"

paris hilton debuting that high is ridiculous, hopefully she'll pull a "stupid girls": debut high, climb a bit and then fall into oblivion. and yay for nelly, i hope she stays @ #1 for at least 6 weeks. and good for gnarls barkley, that song is simply brilliant. now, i just hope dejá vu continues to climb and if possibly quicker than this week (+7)

New York Times reviews "Deja Vu" .
MIKE, READ THIS!
"Deja Vu" (Columbia), Beyoncé's new single, which is a sequel to her 2003 smash "Crazy in Love." Like that song, this one is a duet with her boyfriend, Jay-Z, who sounds uncharacteristically deferential whenever he's around her.
This song too has a disco beat so fierce it's practically macho. And it starts with a knowing tease as Beyoncé summons the instruments one by one: "High-hat. 808. Jay." (Drums, a drum machine and a rapper boyfriend: what else do you need?) But the refrain doesn't give Beyoncé a chance really to show off, and Jay-Z's second verse in particular sounds a bit clunky. It's a fair-to-middling single from a singer who is the opposite of desperate: Beyoncé has already topped the charts this year with her keyed-up Slim Thug collaboration, "Check On It." One way or another, she'll do it again.

^I love how everyone fails to mention that the song has nothing to do with Deja Vu and that's it's basically CIL Part 2.

Let it be "CIL" part 2 . So What? It's still a great song.
It goes the same way as CIL , but the beats and the song itself is different from CIL. I swear if Jayz wasn't in the song , nobody would have compared it to "CIL" .

Yes but Mazen, neither her artistry or image have grown since 2003. That isn't good for someone who is billed to be a legend of tomorrow.
The production is different because Rich Harrison produced "Crazy In Love" while Darkchild produced "Deja Vu". Both are first singles. Both CIL and DV are throwbacks to late 70's/early 80's funky-R&B. Both dwell on the same, "madly in love with some dude" topic. Both feature a rap from Jay-Z. Etc.

haha, that's why I edited my post in the first place.
being the first single? lol Brian what does that mean or has to do with the song?! and technically, "Check on it" was the first single not "deja vu".lol
The topic of the song falls in the same way where every song nowadays is about. You can do nothing about it, and it's not a topic that only "CIL" was about.
Also , I think the producers these days are focusing on throwbacks and some instruments like horns .It's a trend. You should blame them.
She just used the same formula ,but the song still has it's own identity.
"Deja Vu" is not "One Thing" by amerie or "Take This Ring" by Toni Braxton. you know..

I am sorry, but this is not true. Her vocals, her performance skills have grown soo much and so has her artistry. If you read lyrics you can see they are written geniusly. They can have 3 different meanings. That itself is growth. And besides, you haven't heard the whole album..? CIL was the only song with throwback to 60's, while B'DAY is supposed to carry a major influence by Dreamgirls, 60's and 70's. If you watch BET performance, you can clearly see that.
Beyonce is different. Whilst some artists tend their songs speak, Beyonce tends her songs and most importantly, her performance speak for itself.

If your point was that she hasn't grown up artistically. Well, you really have to hear the album to judge. Me myself I don't think her style has changed that much nor her image ,but at least she still has her own style and she is not getting lower. Maybe with a song like "Check On It", but I really won't judge until I hear the album because we haven't seen much from her new image since that time.
But I thought we really are talking about the song itself and it's contents. Whether she remade herself or not, Beyonce still has her own style and it's not wrong that she wanted to keep it safe with this single. The album is again, the only thing we have to judge if she really went to another different direction or not.
and if what BEEILOVEYA said about the album being influnced by Dreamgirls ,is true. Then this is definitely nothing but a push point in her career.

I think that everyone is noticing Beyonce's lack of musical growth in between her albums. Well, everyone except for her fans. Then again when push comes to shove, how much credibility do they have anyway
Deja Vu is a good song, don't get me wrong. But EVERYONE is noticing it's blatent similarities with CIL
