It's when your mind is awake, but your body isn't yet. So like when your leg falls asleep, it's like that but your entire body. It takes a couple seconds/minutes for your body to "wake up" and you can start moving again. When you fall asleep you become temporarily paralyzed and normally your mind and body wake up at the same time, but sometimes your mind wakes up before your body.
