4 years between albums is always way too long to wait (unless you're Adele). Avril and Xtinct are classic examples of an artist destroyed by waiting too long in between albums
It's not like Back To Basics was that big of a success to have a huge follow up too. I mean that was a follow up to Stripped which was her last huge era and it was indeed big.
