The writing has been mediocre ever since they've run out of book material.
D&D are good at visuals and know how a scene has to look, but their writing skills are not even half as good as Martins.
OT: As I once mentioned in another thread: "Game Of Thrones" is UNTOUCHABLE when it is at its peak.

Yeah aside from the occasional grand speech the dialogue lately has been lazy

Would you have preferred Jon's death and to watch Ramsay Bolton smirking at his enemies for 2 more seasons?
Nothing wrong with a predictable outcome, as long as everything that's leading up to is good storytelling and the the characters you root for don't get off easy. No one wants to watch a show in which characters like Joffrey and Ramsay win, for the sake of unpredictability.
This was one of the best hours of television i've ever seen. Beautiful shot, extremely well edited, the dialogue was good, not a minute was wasted on filler. It was exciting, emotional and although "predictable", there was a lot that happened that caught you offguard because of the timing/pacing.

The writing was a bitty messy, but damn, the directing and the intensity of this whole episode
And the promo for the finale is still selling me so much

So well said. The story cannot always surprise or twist. That would be ridiculous. It's how we get to the outcome that matters, and they are doing an utterly incredible job of making the ride hugely enjoyable. Definitely one of the greatest hours of television that has ever been made.

The battle was so gross, all that dirt and blood and guts I was like the whole time. Beautifully shot and was very thrilling though.
Biggest ever when
the dog bit Ramsay's face off
but also the most satisfying scene in the series so far?

I really enjoyed the Mereen scenes this episode. I like Dany's bravado moments when they actually serve a purpose.
They kinda answered everyone's question this episode, cause some people thought they were gonna go the Mad Queen route with Dany, but nah. She listened to Tyrion, she's still willing to be guided and do the right thing.

But where was Wyman Manderly? He's like the 2nd biggest lord in the North and according to that Reddit thread he was set to appear in this episode on Ramsay's side, then deliver a great speech as he switched to the Stark side.
But it turns out that that Reddit thread wasn't that correct, which makes the finale more exciting and unpredictable for me.

I'm glad Tyrion brought it up, I can tell he's gonna be a good voice of reason for her when she gets tempered. I look forward to their scenes together in the future tbh.

I love the lack of Dorne this season.

In the books, Davos actually parted from Stannis when he was in the North to go meet with Wyman Manderly to get his support for Stannis' claim. My guess is that GRRM was going to have it so that the Manderly's end up supporting the Starks after Stannins had fallen.
It is kind of weird that we never heard of them in the show.

I just noticed that Jon always gets the big battle scenes in the series:
This one, Hardhome and the Battle of the Wall.

Sansa knew the only way to get Ramsay was through laying a trap of her own, she tried to tell Jon but he's a Stark man, they're all stubborn, they're all loyal, and they all **** things up.
When she confronted Jon she knew she couldn't tell him or he'd **** things up again, Ned, Bran, Jon, Robb, even Rickon, all Stark men know is how to be honest and **** **** up lol.

Thank you. I mean, a show has to be rewarding. There's no reward in having the good guys lose every episode.
Of course some things are predictable, but the reason they're predictable is because the writers are seeding all the events. If they didn't, we'd complain about a lack of proper setup. Everything would seem to come out of nowhere. That's no way to tell a story. We watch because we want to see certain things happen. Twists are fun every now and then, but they shouldn't be a rule as to how you write a story.

Overall it was good.
The best episode of this season.
But some parts were embarrasing
Come on, Rickon running and Ramsay effortlessly kill him, but when Jon Snow is attacked with raining arrows nobody can touch him.
The Kalessi scene was the same old trick. She and her friends are in danger and her dragons save the day (once again).
I love Sansa, i love Tormund, and the scene when Sansa educates Jon

Honestly I wonder what'll happen with the Northern politics now.
Sansa is the only Stark by name left. So my guess is that The North, now that it belongs to them again, must declare her Queen in The North, they are in clear opposition to the crown so Sansa can't be called a Wardeness of the North.
Furthermore House Bolton is extinct now. If I was her I'd give their lands and the Dreadfort to the Wildlings to thank them for their support, and behead the Lords of House Umber, Karstark, Glover and every single other Lord that rose against the Starks.
I'm very interested to see how things will shape up next season in Winterfell.
And if Bran is gonna bring down the Wall or not lol.

I lowkey wish Brienne would have made it back to Sansa in time, I would have liked to see her involved in those fight scenes as well. She would have effortlessly slaughtered a few of Ramsay's men.
