Top 5 Surprise Retirements
5. Hilary Duff: With Love
I am actually glad this made the list. This is probably, for me, the most surprising retirement of the year. I am not a fan of Hilary Duff, but this song grew on me. It spent a then-record four consecutive weeks off of the countdown before it returned and eventually retired. Congrats, Hilary.
4. +44: When Your Heart Stops Beating
This song entered the countdown (I think) close to a year after a release. I really enjoy this song, and holds the record, along with the song "155", for the longest amount of time two songs from one artist are holding places on the countdown (previously held by Nelly Furtado for "Say It Right" and "All Good Things (Come To An End)" way back in March). These two songs even held the #1 and #2 spots on the countdown, a new feat.
3. Nelly Furtado: Say It Right
One of the first songs to retire on this countdown (And, currently, one of the two only songs to have retired on the same day, the other being Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race"). I never really ever doubted that this song would retire, but, it holds the #3 spot.
2. Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson: The Way I Are
Debuting on the Fourth of July, this song fell off of the countdown for a good while before coming back strong and retiring in October. At first I found the song annoying (probably because it was on those McDonald's commercials), but obviously, I changed my mind.
1. Rihanna feat. Jay-Z: Umbrella
Appearing on every single vote turned in except one, this song, arguably the smash hit of the summer (or whenever), was the overwhelming winner. Nothing much to say. It never fell off once, and I always liked the song. But, it is your #1 Surprise Retiree of 2007!
