Pfft. Electra Heart did not go
over anyone's head. It was a genuinely bad album; the persona she was trying to create was poorly crafted and even more poorly executed. The songs were, by and large, also pretty bad on their own.
Anyway, I do think people are looking too much at True Romance for what should define a "good record" for Charli. Yes, it's an amazing album and one of the best pop albums this decade, but it by no means should serve as a blueprint for what all of Charli's future albums should sound like. She's pursuing a completely different sound with this album and going for a completely different aesthetic. Holding up the "immature" lyrics of this album to some of the more mature highlights of True Romance is unfair because she's aiming for something completely different; she's
trying to be brash and immature on this album.
