However, it reflects her obsession with kitsch things (90s pop punk, corny American teen films and crazy styling). It's not supposed to reach the lyrical heights of her first record, sound "hipster" or showcase how talented she is. She's intentionally crafted a cringeworthy but fun sound to create a "it's so bad that it's good" effect — because that's what she's inspired by.

So with that being said, it's obvious that this record will not come close to TR in the conventional sense of what makes a "good record". However, I think people will warm to her new sound if they begin to understand what she's actually trying to do. It's completely intentional.

Pfft. Electra Heart did not go over anyone's head. It was a genuinely bad album; the persona she was trying to create was poorly crafted and even more poorly executed. The songs were, by and large, also pretty bad on their own.

Anyway, I do think people are looking too much at True Romance for what should define a "good record" for Charli. Yes, it's an amazing album and one of the best pop albums this decade, but it by no means should serve as a blueprint for what all of Charli's future albums should sound like. She's pursuing a completely different sound with this album and going for a completely different aesthetic. Holding up the "immature" lyrics of this album to some of the more mature highlights of True Romance is unfair because she's aiming for something completely different; she's trying to be brash and immature on this album.

Goodbye at that sentence. EH remains unbothered. I'm so excited for Sucker though. I love the pop punk sound and the visuals remind me of late 80's/early 90's. Charli slayed in the Breaking Up video. Please serve me more bops like Breaking Up and London Queen!

I specifically remember knowing her by at LEAST early 2011 because my favorite band remixed Stay Away. I didn't really get into her back then though. Point is I've been around longer than some of the people that unnecessarily hate on Sucker!

The problem with Marina is that even she didn't like much that era and stopped trying to be mainstream after Electra Heart. The album good or not doesn't seem to be that good even to the one who created it since its moving back to something that is more her bread and butter also proved by Froot and it's music video showing her going back to her original looks and less commercial following sound. Charli XCX on the other hand since her first album she has been saying she doesn't want to make the same things twice and that every album has a color and while she sees True Romance as a Purple she sees Sucker as Red mixed with a little bit of Pink. There are colors that don't speak to her which would be Green which she considered to be Pitbull's music.

Overall Charli from the beginning of her career has expressed interest in different genres and being interested in trying new things as much as she can. If she goes back to the sound of True Romance later on the career I guess she ran out of the styles she liked and moved back to the things she likes and it wouldn't surprise me if she gets a long career which can happen considering how young she is.
