I'm not arguing for one approach over the other rn. However, without substantially increased federal funding, you would see certain research areas cut and less students admitted in order to balance things. Those consequences could be more pronounced with completely free college

To be fair, Hillary is leading nationally. People are tired of the establishment, but a lot of Bernie's supporters (not the ones in this thread, though) don't know too much about politics, generally speaking.

I agree that a lot of his supporters don't know much about politics (mostly because they're new to the political process) but a lot of it also comes from the fact that being told he's "unelectable" and his policies "can't be done" is bs. None of his ideas are radical and he's just as electable as Hillary, especially at this point.

Not to mention, there has been a lot of bias from the DNC, which is ridiculous because they tried to only give the democrats one option this election and that's not the way it should work.

If anything the person I dislike the most coming out of this election is Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She's let the republicans dominate the conversation while letting the democrats fade in to the background. Thank god for Bernie's rise because the democratic race is finally getting mainstream attention/discussion.

Honestly, I think I applaud everyone in this thread. It's nice to see young people so passionate about politics.

In my government class, it's me speaking for 12 minutes at a time with an occasional chime from another student. Every time we open the floor for someone to discuss (and I shut up for the entire day) nobody says anything the entire period.

Also, I understand. The trolls on both sides are annoying. There's no Hillary trolls here, but there are some on Reddit mixed in with the Trump trolls (and maybe Rand trolls as well, he has somewhat of a following due to his father's run). They'll invade the Sanders subreddit and say "lol he won't win".

I feel like the average Dem doesn't really care about whether it's Hillary or Bernie. They'll probably each pull the same numbers if they get elected as nominee, as long as Bernie can manage not to scare off moderates.

Do you guys think that at some point, the republican party will split up into two parties (i.e. the tea party wing and the moderate wing)? For instance, I can see the moderate wing calling themselves the New Republican Party.

No. What's going to eventually happen is that the religious right will remain Republican while the moderates move to the Libertarian party. I see it happening in 1-2 elections from now.

I can't speak for the other Bernie supporters but it doesn't matter who gets the nomination, I'm still voting democrat. And I do find it ridiculous that all of them would rather stay home than vote because not voting for Hillary sure as hell isn't going to make anything Bernie promises, happen. At least Bernie has raised his profile and can continue the discussion, even if he loses the nomination.

But I support Bernie because I agree with his policies, he comes off as more genuine to me, and seems like he's ready to fight for his policies and get people behind him. There's no doubt it my mind that if Hillary gets elected she'll keep moving this country forward, but she just doesn't have the excitement that Bernie has.

Either way, we can't afford a republican taking office. And as much as I hate Trump, I don't believe for a second he actually supports 90% of the crap he says but he has a base to appeal to and he's going to have to make some of it happen or else he'll lose his support. So even the people who think Trump is a liberal (he actually is), he's still going to have to come through on his promises.

After 8 years of Bush, the win was obviously going to be a Democrat. And McCain is useless. He's weak on immigration. Romney is much better + he's hot.

I just want a moderate, slightly left party (socially liberal and fiscally either very centrist or slightly conservative) to happen if the more left Democrats and independents are going to allow themselves to be sucked into the world of Bernie Sanders. The Republicans can join in by getting over their fear of social liberalism and ejecting the Tea Partiers, or they can continue their slow and sad decline.

I don't have anything against him personally but really, if it had to be a "progressive" champion that was doing all of this, I'd want it to be Warren, because she'd do it better and more realistically in my opinion.

We'd be better off with more than two significant parties anyway.
