that's actually not how the Oscar's work, but I'm not going to argue that point. In many instances the Academy is often seen as out of touch with the public opinion, but if it were up to the public, stuff like Marley & Me would be getting awards.
Just because people like a movie, does NOT mean it is worthy of an Oscar. It just so happens that sometimes people like movies that do indeed deserve Oscars. What in Marley & Me, can you honestly say, deserves one of the highest merits in film making?

Yes, Aniston was made famous from Friends, but that was nearly a decade ago (well...since it was relevant). Owen Wilson has consistently been in huge movies over the past decade. Zoolander? Shanghai Noon/Knights? Wedding Crashers fcs?
