This is it. Today, The TC 10 comes to an end. The countdown began all the way back on Sunday, March 9, 2003, as a random idea that I never thought would last 200 weeks. The next week, the countdown would find its home on Fridays for almost four years. Now, here we are, returning to Sunday one last time for the final edition of The TC 10.
Before sending off the countdown, let's take a look back at how we got here, with the very first edition of The TC 10...

So I was thinking about starting up my own countdown in this very Your Top Ten forum. The working title is the TC 10, and if I actually remember it exists (which I highly doubt), I'll continue it weekly. Okay here we go.

1 week | debut | peak: 10
9. Sum 41 - The Hell Song

Exciting eh? Now you know what music I like to listen to at the moment. I'm not sure if I want to do requests or not, because this is my countdown and everything.

The following week, I started adding more features to the countdown, such as close calls (which later became known as extra beats), premieres, and of course, vintage clips. Every single week, The TC 10 was sent off with a classic song...

Week #2
This week's recommended classic:
Weezer - Say It Ain't So
|
As you can see, the first vintage clip was "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer. Over the years, a wide variety of songs would follow, creating an epic playlist of classic songs that ends today with another special selection, which you'll see below.
By the tenth week of the countdown, a new concept of retirement had emerged. Instead of letting songs stay on the countdown forever, I ended their run at ten weeks, a fitting number, given that the countdown is The TC 10...

Week #10
4. Queens Of The Stone Age - Go With The Flow | RETIRED
10 weeks | same | peak: 1 (3 weeks)
3. Sum 41 - The Hell Song | RETIRED
10 weeks | up 3 | peak: 1 (1 week)
|
Later on, two songs would go on to spend all ten weeks at #1 on the countdown: "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction, and "Ch-Check It Out" by Beastie Boys. All of my year-end countdowns have been calculated using statistics from The TC 10, so these songs easily took the #1 spot in 2003 and 2004, respectively. In 2005, "O' Sailor" by Fiona Apple and "Best Of You" by Foo Fighters actually ended up in a tie for #1, as they had the exact same run on The TC 10. In 2006, the tie was broken, as "Dani California" by Red Hot Chili Peppers was the clear winner.
Possibly the most memorable moments in The TC 10 history came from you guys. The best part of doing the countdown was receiving suggestions, requests, and other random comments from whoever decided to drop in. Over the years, Ben and Ryan would prove to be the most loyal supporters of The TC 10, requesting over 150 times out of 200. That's damn impressive.
With all that said, it's time to say goodbye. For the last edition of The TC 10, I assembled a list of songs from this year that I thought would be a fitting send-off. As I noted earlier, The TC 10 has returned to its original day of the week on this Sunday, December 31, 2006, so we're "Setting Up Sunday" one last time...

There it is: a variety of songs from this year helped send off The TC 10. Final statistics from The TC 10 are available on
The TC 10 archives page. On the very first edition of The TC 10, "Like A Stone" by Audioslave was the first debut. Today, the epic "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell is the final song to retire. The first vintage clip way back then was "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer. Today, "Only In Dreams" closes out The TC 10 once and for all.
Only in dreams, we see what it means
Reach out our hands, hold onto hers
But when we wake, it's all been erased
And so it seems, only in dreams
To everyone, thanks for your support. It's been fun. Adieu from The TC 10!
