Go back to when The Sims 4 was just announced, and ATRL threw The Sims 3 under a bus.
Now it's all "oh bless The Sims 3" etc. and it will be "omg The Sims 4 " when all Ep's are released and The Sims 5 is released bare bones.

Nothing beats The Sims 1 - 2 era's though.

Critical and user feedback is way worse than any other instalment in the series though The general consensus is that the game had a lot of potential, but ended up being a rushed mess with half baked content and gameplay. As someone who has been a fan of The Sims for 13 years now and has bought every expansion and stuff pack up until TS4, the game is just simply not good. I'm in no way compelled to purchase any of the game packs or EPs based on what I've seen of them. The wishy washy concepts and half-hearted "efforts" at fixing the mess they created just ain't cuttin it.

I do like The Sims 4 tbh. My favorite part was always building, so this version works perfectly for me. But I will say that TS3 had my absolute favorite gameplay. World Adventures was THE ****, going on vacations to Egypt was so amazing and really kept me playing for hours.

I still can't get over how great Sims 3 was a few years ago.. It's grown a bit outdated now graphics wise but when it was new.. whew! World Adventures was amazing, going into tombs and getting to the end was literally hours of fun And collecting rocks/gems/insects.. I think Sims 4 would be amaaazing if they had just kept the open world neighbourhood, it would've made a huge difference.

No one was debating The Sims 4 base game was a hot mess, but Outdoor Retreat, Get To Work, Spa Day, Get Together and now Dine Out are brilliantly executed.
The only disappointment out of all this is the Retail aspect for Get To Work was too futuristic and doesn't feel right.

Developers spent the majority of The Sims 4 base game on building the engine, rather than adding content. That's wildly known.
However the packs have been stellar, especially for the price. Again, only thing less than great was Retail.

Had any of these packs been released during Sims 2/3, people would love them. Its simply because people don't like the base game, they don't give the packs a chance.

No? Last year they announced Get Together too early. There's still heaps of chances to get an EP before the end of the year.

That was actually debunked.

There was an online game called "Olympus" which was the online game, and an offline Sims game called "Icarus". They shared the same look and feel but weren't the same.
Olympus was scrapped, and we got Icarus.

They won't release it on console until PC sales die down. They said that last year at Gamescom.

I have a feeling a G.U.Y is coming too. A huge EP with the Devs going an extra mile to make it good.

TS2 still holds up incredibly well, especially if you have the Ultimate Collection.

I haven't really been able to play much of TS3, because during it's lifespan I never had a computer strong enough to run it, and now that I have an actual gaming PC, TS3 crashes every time I try to play.

TS4 is really getting me back into the series. It's stunning visually and the build mode is so nice to work with. I will admit the lack of EPs this far into the life cycle is really annoying, but I'm happy with the content they've given us so far. I think we'll end up seeing 3 or possibly 4 EPs in 2017, and I'm holding out hope that we'll see at least one this year.

Sis last year they announced Get Together at Gamescom and we ended up getting it in December, which was originally set in Novemeber. So if they're not going to announce something this year, we won't get anything before 2017. This year we only got 1 game pack and God knows how many stuff packs that like 4 people asked for in their forums.

I love The Sims, I really do but EA is slowly killing it with their well-known terrible management. I am not the typical whiny simmer, but I really hate seeing one of my favorite games going down the hill straight into the grave.

That's the point though. They admitted last year they announced Get Together too early, and they also admitted that they should have had more to show before they announced the EP, simply because they didn't show what the pack was about.

They have learnt from their mistakes. That was the first time since The Sims 2 days where they announced an EP months in advance. They usually announce them a month or so before.

If there is an EP coming in Nov/Dec they will announce it Oct.

The Sims 2 is almost perfect. If The Sims 2 (PC) had the same graphics and style of The Sims 2 (console) it would be the ultimate Sims game.

The Sims 3 runs like crap on nearly any PC. EA even admitted this, and released a patch where they recommenced you to play with only 2 packs at a time, for it to run properly. More than two packs can mean it used too much RAM and causes your game to crash

Your statement on 4, is how most people who have played the game feel. There's just a lot of people still playing the base game being all like "its bad" and yet I doubt any of them solely played The Sims 3 base game for two years without being bored.

It does need more EP's, because the base game was more engine based rather than content based. But I have a feeling the future content for 4 will be amazing, which is why they are taking their time with it.

I remember hearing that TS3 runs so poorly because the game was never intended to have that much DLC. If you think about it, TS3 had way too much content available in the form of stuff packs, expansion packs and The Sims 3 Store.

I believe they went into TS4 with the intention of building a strong foundation to provide as much DLC as possible but because the game was rush released, they didn't have the time. They're probably dedicating all their resources to fixing TS4's engine and base which is why we don't have EPs.

It makes sense considering each patch is like 1GB

I'm not holding my breath but we'll see. Even though in TS3 era they announce EPS 3 months in advance, which gives them time to do the promo. Still even if we got an EP in Q4, that still doesn't justify the lack of wanted content this year. They keep wasting their time releasing SPs but the game needs more gameplay material.

Back then we get the Walkthrough 2 weeks before the release and the launch trailer a few hours before it's officially out. None of that happens this era. I don't know how they'll promote their EPs this year.

For them it's extremely profitable to keep releasing these stuff packs. They just have to use models of previously existing objects in the game, create new meshes/patterns and make minor edits to tailor them to a certain theme.

Plus they only need to code one "special gameplay" object per stuff pack. Because of the size of the Sims Community, they're able to rake in a huge profit because these packs are inexpensive to make yet their guaranteed to sell well because of the size of their fanbase
