A damn slay, Madonna. Got me perchedT and bopping here like the little queen hearing
Confessions for the first time.
"Living For Love" is just so good. Her best dance track since "Get Together". Serving early '90s house/disco realness, "Rescue Me" especially and that choir girl slays too.
"Devil Pray"
should be more of a mess than it is, especially with the list in the pre-chorus, but the rest of the narrative is simultaneous kinda funny ("Lucifer is near") and touching. Aw, don't do drugs, kids.
Her VOICE in "Ghosttown" (especially the verses) sounds fuller and stronger than anything on her last record. Post-apocalyptic love song slay. The production is really understated but impacting in the chorus. Better than any ballad-type-thing on
MDNA apart from "Love Spent". So far.
"Bitch I'm Madonna is still
nuts. And Nicki sounds SO good on it. I enjoyed that way more than the demo. Ugh, the tour performance will be a mess but I'm SO looking forward to it.
"Illuminati"... like, what was going on inside her
mind? I know it's a MESS, like who does a song about a "secret" organisation infiltrating Hollywood, calling out a bunch of contemporary stars by name - but GOSH it's addictive. It's going to age really badly though - in ten years people will not get all of those references (not naming names, but you know who your faves are).
"Unapologetic Bitch" is way better than I think we were all expecting, thank the damn Lord. It's bouncy, it's positive, it's funny. An "I'm Addicted" kind of slay, I guess.
There's nothing here I would rate as less than 6/10, and that's more than I can say for the first six tracks on
MDNA, so (once again) SLAY, YASS, etc. March is WAY too far away though, should have announced February, it's just over a month away and she wouldn't have to put out any more tracks apart from maybe the proper lead single.
Also, I love the album cover.
