Madonna was popular only cause of the controversy. At that time nobody was doing anything similiar, provocative and that's why she was popular.

Madonna's music was a lot of the reason she was popular and why she can still tour after 4 decades. She has some of the best selling albums of all time and most of that came BEFORE Like A Prayer, And Erotica.

She has talent as well which most people know Katy lacks. Katy is popular because she makes teenie bopper tunes that people in America love and that's about it.

Let's not act like Katy hasn't played with controversy in her career to give her a boost either.
