Here, ask yourself this: When did this stop being about a VMA?

The answer: When Taylor Swift called Nicki Minaj out for her comments. As soon as Swift directly replied to Minaj, and verbally hit her in the face with a suitcase, that was when Minaj was immediately taken aback -- she was scared, panicked, and then, and only then, was when Minaj turned to her last resort: talking about race, and media, and Tidal. She didn't mention these topics until after Taylor Swift knocked her out. Just look at the tweets; I'm not making this stuff up, kids.
And that's what you need to realize, son. That Nicki Minaj doesn't really care about these racial issues, she was just backed into a corner by Taylor Swift's comments and needed a way out, and her only saving grace was falling back on the race card.

It was about race to begin with.

What is it about then?
"If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well."
"U couldn't go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween...an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?"
"When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination."
"If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year"
"Oh but trust me. I'll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda."
"I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it."
Other than the last one, most of her tweets were flooded with comments about "music videos" and "nominations". And the VMA nominations made her "tired" of black women being ignored/unrewarded, even when a black woman was nominated. Like, out of 5 nominees there is so much black females that they can fit in there. The video truly deserved a nomination, that's for sure. But it has nothing to do with race or gender, it was just snubbed period.
And if she is truly trying to get a point across like you say, then she is failing miserably at that

Not about to read through this whole thread but my thoughts:
-The tweet was clearly about Taylor. She is the only white woman in the category, and her video had a bunch of other women in it. If for some weird reason it wasn't intentionally about her, Nicki is an idiot if she didn't think of how it would be construed. But that's beside the point, because she clearly had to be thinking of her
I'm glad Taylor stood up for herself

Kiii @ people saying Taylor is pretending to be a victim, read the tweets again, Nicki's shade was clear and when she was clocked she started acting all hurt, if anyone is playing the victim that's NIcki.

Come to think of it, If you read the tweets in chronological order, Nicki may very well have not even had Taylor on her mind. Her emphasis on "other" and "kind" sounded like she was talking about race right off the bat. Well at the very least for the 1st 3 or 4 tweets.

I rarely agree with you but this post is gold.
Nicki stayed mum as to not offend her white fanbase from the Starships days and now she wants to talk about white privilege.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You are misinformed & uneducated on the issue, so you have no right to obnoxiously try to get your racist point of view across by being condescending and talking in an "objective" manner.

So ur telling me that Nicki didn't have race in mind when she posted about her and Beyonce (the only, exclusively black nomination) getting snubbed for best-collab, she literally already had a nomination for that category so why else would she had been salty.

That is like the third misinfomed Vin post in this thread. Please read the thread or at least read her tweets before posting again. Thanks

Very well said! I'm glad to see other people see past the smoke screen that Nicki is putting up.

The way certain people try to deflect racism is so disgusting. I am so disgusted by certain members in this thread.
Its literally so exhausting trying to educate and explain something to people who don't want to or refuse to understand. *sighs*

Oh wow, that's uncalled for, and spiteful. You don't have to attack someone personally to make a point. Ha, funny how you're defending your fav for doing the same thing. It's clear that neither you or Nicki know the difference.
