Oh snap. There's a few 50s that haven't been added so it's possible. 61 is my prediction.

I thought Prism was made for the charts and ARTPOP was made for music. Don't get why they have the same metacritic score then.

ARTPOP is clearly the better album, so I don't get it either. I'm blaming it on the title, tbh; should have named the album Aura instead.

EDIT: NVM, NPR only counts for movies not music.

I couldn't shake the sense that the "art" of ARTPOP is much more evident in the marketing than in the music.

Pop's Resident Provocateur Fizzles On 'ARTPOP'
The apparatus Joni Mitchell famously described as "the star-maker machinery behind the popular song" has been in overdrive lately, preparing the world for Lady Gaga's new music.
Since the summer, there's been a steadily rising crescendo of leaks and audacious tweets and pop-up performances in various countries. Last month, at a nightclub in London, the singer-songwriter scored extra media coverage by disrobing completely while singing a song called "Venus."
The crazy-expensive campaign will no doubt seem familiar to anyone old enough to remember Madonna. Something I keep wondering: Is it enough to distract people from the fizzy, derivative, overheated and undercooked music on the unfortunately titled ARTPOP?
It seems our dear Lady Gaga, she of the incandescent melodies and million-dollar singalong refrains, got lost in some South Beach club and came under the spell of electronic dance music. She went and got the sleekest beats money can buy, and then she wrote thoroughly predictable four-measure hooks that talk about the burdens of fame, or explore the various stages of physical attraction.
There are glimmers of cleverness — a few songs appear to worship at the altar of high fashion, but could just as easily be snarky commentary. Gaga got where she is by working every angle, both inside her music and in the culture. Sometimes it's cool when you can't tell the circus from the sideshow, but with this album, I couldn't shake the sense that the "art" of ARTPOP is much more evident in the marketing than in the music.

That doesn't matter. Plenty of reviews in this thread don't count toward Metacritic either.

They don't though.
You're also making a pretty elementary assumption that music made for the charts is poorly received by critics and conversely, that albums made for music are well-received by critics.

At least the review TIME posted is one that has already been counted (Consequence Of Sound).
It's sad they posted it though.

The constant theme causing the bad reviews here are a) The title b) Jewels 'n Drugs c) The length of the album.
That frustrates me. She could have called the thing Private in Public (would fit the album better imo), cut Jewels n' Drugs and maybe 2 other songs and she would be getting great reviews from everyone except Angela Cheng .

Critics are just people with opinions, the same people who buy albums and send them up the charts. They are not the authoritative judges on whether music is good or worthwhile, so don't act like metacritic actually means anything other than a few people's views.

Damn, I expected a low score, but certainly didn't expect her to be dragged like this.
For some reason I don't think she cares though, which would be fine by me. I mean, she named the album ARTPOP, and then included songs with the most off-putting, unrelatable, nonsensical lyrics of her entire career, laid atop noisy beats. She had to know she'd be crucified for that.
I've come to love ARTPOP personally, but that's really because I'll love almost anything she does. But I think what's really hurting the reviews, though they don't mention it, are the expectations people have of her, her music, and an album album with ART in the title. She insinuated throughout the past 2 years that she was "breaking barrier's" and "Creating without chains" (paraphrasing), but the end result is the same exact sound we're used to from her, minus the lyrical depth, creative metaphors, or over-arching thesis.
I love the album, but still agree with the issues many of the critics have.
