It was a daily struggle at my job. Women were seen as inferior to my previous management team, when I was a Staffing Consultant (Recruiter). Since I recently transitioned to a new section of the company, I have found myself much more at ease and happy. My previous superior was an asshole with a capital A. He treated the female Recruiters more as a Secretary than as a capable worker negotiating new contracts with clients. Don't get me wrong, I loved what I did and most of people I worked with, but every female knew we were working with a glass ceiling in that department. Most of us sought out alternatives.

I've never held a job position, so I can't attest to feeling treated that way but I can imagine how sucky that must feel. I had a discussion of sorts with a member here once about how females are suppressed/oppressed here in the U.S. and all over the world. We need to stand together, sisters.

You won't see noticeable discrimination till you get in a more professional setting. Most CEO's, CFO's, Directors, Managers, and so on are typically men. Don't get me wrong, there are some jobs that are dominated by women and some by men. Us this stat from the UK back in 2009 as an example:

I mean I'm not in my career yet so I've only had a bunch of bs jobs while being a full-time student, but when I worked at Finish Line I swear the only reason I was even hired was to flaunt around and attract potential male buyers. They would specifically place me on the male side or outside and try to get customers to come in; however, when it came to the more hands on part of the job they paid me complete dust. Sometimes they would ask us about the products and ask us to test them out so we would be able to sell the product more accurately and when it came to any type of athletic shoe my opinion was often ignored even though I probably knew more about basketball and other sports than most of the male employees.

I'm starting to see why some of y'all go to the boys room while y'all are out in public ,sometimes.
(Part of my job is to clean the bathroom, BTW)

Did you know that I got volunteered to work all the late evening events because I "don't have a family at home" to take care of? Yeah, direct words from my male (late 40s) director. This is why I don't get home until midnight each night.

Are yo for real? That's something that can be brought up to HR, no? Granted you're in PR so those rules are a bit bendy. I hope you get a **** ton of overtime then. Nothing like a padded paycheck.

Oh Katie....
I used to get sick at work because of my Sickle Cell and my male manager always used to assume it was because my period was on or asked me if I was pregnant.

I'm salaried, home girl I originally started working there with 7-3 as my schedule and few events (like...one a month). Then events were getting more frequent and I finally asked about it. That's when he said that. The women with kids work the shift I originally had. Do you think my early morning self likes staying up to these god awful crack addict hours?
Not much can be done unless I wanna make a big deal out of it. It's just good to vent here!

Crack hours >>> Early bird hours
And I'm salaried but I still get overtime after my 9 hour work day. Privileges of being a DOMINANT woman, I guess.

What kind of tax evasion? You should be exempt from overtime if you're salaried. I get a standard bonus check for each event, kinda like a commission. 4-5 events a week really adds up. Too bad I have no free time to spend it since I work every night

Was it something "implied" or was it something specifically said about the no family to take care of part? If the latter, this is absolutely something that HR gets involved in. That's discriminatory, regardless if you are the only single man or woman on staff, it should never be said. The wording and presentation would've had to be so much better than that to justify your grave yard hours.
@KB Sorry to hear about your sickle cell, but that comment would've been over the top for someone to make. They could've ask you in a different manner than that.

Nope, that was exactly what he said. I remember because I snapped back saying "I've got a cat that needs me!" It's a semi-small operation and he'd be the only one to go to unless I want to contact regional management. It's not all that bothersome to me and honestly a simple "thank you" from those with nights off would be AMAZING.

I won't pretend to know the hierarchy for your job, but there is absolutely an HR department to report to at some level. at the cat part.

Right and he already knew I had it plus it was documented in my paperwork. It was completely baseless.
