I read on GGD that they do a line themselves close to the venue and write numbers on their hands, so they can leave and come back later. I suppose there's always a few people there making sure that's where the early ones queue, it becomes more crowded as the date approaches and then they migrate to the official line at 8am the day of the show.

Technically no you can't , but always there is a sneaky bastard who does and you never tell on them simply because you are a good person. That's what happened to me in Sofia , we were told that we would be disqualified , but the guy who took the key was there long before 8am!
