It didn't happen that way.
They just posted (3 months before the album release) that EMI was expecting that TD would have the biggest first week of the year (that was Eminem's ~750k). They didn't predict until the week before, and it was 200k. With 1st day sales they lowered the prediction to 175-195k.
Later we knew that EMI actually shipped 1m in the first week
