Such an ill response to me. Anyway, like I said "RITD" is a breakout case. It reminds me of Amy's "Rehab", Duffy's "Mercy", or Leona's "Bleeding Love". While those songs weren't as big, the general concept of being a huge hit for foreigners, the major exposure, etc. is what relates. Their follow-ups are never as big, though their albums continue to sell really well.
Using the rest of the world is also not really a great way to think the same will happen in the US. We were already slow catching on to "RITD", at the time we were "Someone Like You" was blowing up elsewhere. I also didn't use the word struggle, but take off, in a way like "RITD". As many people will not think clearly enough to understand why it's not doing as good.
But as I said, Adele's been way more successful than her other European peers, so maybe she'll be an exception. I'm just thinking about how it's been in the past.

I think it was removed to let the album version take off, though I could be wrong.

What about Natasha Bedingfeld? She had no problem getting follow-up hits. Amy, Duffy and Leona were new artists, and even then, Leona saw some pretty solid success with "Better in Time." I think Amy not following up her "Rehab" success was due to her personal issues, and well, Duffy was never that big to begin with. I actually find it laughable that Duffy constantly gets brought up when her single wasn't that huge. If anything, she saw modest success, definitely nothing comparable to Amy, Leona, or especially Adele.
With that said, I won't expect "Someone Like You" to be as big as RITD, which was a multi-format smash.

Duffy's song definitely wasn't huge on the charts, but it got as much movie, TV, general exposure as "Bleeding Love", "Rolling In The Deep", "Rehab", etc in the states.
I totally forgot about Natasha, but even she's a little spotty. "Single" & "These Words" did okay. "Unwritten" broke out. Then she had a period of trying to find herself, the song with Sean Kingston did decent, until "Pocketful of Sunshine" finally came and caught on. Now she's irrelevant again.
I think, and hope, you both get that I'm just saying what you're saying anyway. Her next single will be moderate, but for reasons I've already tried to express. It won't stop people from comparing them, though.

I think Duffy's "Mercy" is more comparable to Adele's "Chasing Pavements," which was her U.S. breakout single and sold over 1 million units and was used in movies, TV shows, etc. and won her two Grammy Awards. And well, Adele already topped that with RITD.
But I get the argument, which is why I'm not expecting much. I wasn't really expecting much with RITD because I know there's this trend that U.K. artists rarely follow-up their breakthrough hits (at the time, it was "Chasing Pavements"). I'd rather her sell the album.

I could understand those comparisons a few months ago, but now? I think it's time to accept that Adele is not the next Leona.
No other country has been as slow to pick up on Adele as Australia was, and Somone Like You shot rght to #1 (outpeaking RITD) here based on 30 seconds of the song being played on one TV show. You shouldn't doubt her power at this point.

I don't see her as the next Leona, nor trying to compare them in that sense of hit, then irrelevancy. I just as example in how her next song might not be as big. Adele definitely will not fall off the map. 23 is coming for more next May.
I hope I am wrong, honestly. "Set Fire To The Rain" or "Rumor Has It" deserve as much recognition, IMO. I haven't given "SLY" much play, but it seems it is next.

Don't let "Someone Like You" be covered on Glee or Adele perform on SNL in the fall. I'm pretty sure those factors would push that song to be a legitimate hit. Just look at what SNL did for Adele and "Chasing Pavements" three years ago and Glee turns pretty much anything into a hit.

Oh Lord. If SLY slays around the holidays everybody else should just pack up and go home.

SLY is too slow, so I'm not sure how well it will do on radio. Plus, I would hate to hear a dance remix played on radio. It reminds me of "Foolish Games," which smashed like over a decade ago. I wanted "Set Fire to the Rain" to be the next single. It makes me want to slash tires and bust windows.
What was the last ballad that did decently? "Jar of Hearts"?

It's really slow, but maybe it'll do something if it rolls out late July/early August. "SFTTR" would easily pick up on radio, at least better.
And I believe so.
