But you would earn so much more in a graduate position, even with your HECS debt coming out of it, than you would at Coles. And that's only for a few years, and then once the debt is gone, you'll suddenly be like "woah, wtf, did I get a promotion or something?"
I suppose it's different for me though. I graduate in November, so much HECS debt is going to be like $30,000 max. Whereas you guys are gonna have to pay like $125,000 or something because of the deregulation of University fees.

Honestly, it's not worth it. I thought my ATAR was the be-all and end-all. I was so stressed, all the time. I remember having a panic attack the night before my first HSC exam, which was either the English Area of Study (Belonging) or maybe Business Studies. And my mum ran me a bath and was like "just study in the bath, and breathe deep and slowly" because I was pretty much hyperventilating I was crying so much hahaha, it was ridiculous.
Everyone makes it out to be the biggest deal. And I remember my grade was so competitive, which (since schools get scaled) helped bump everyone up. But the whole year, everyone in my grade was asking each other what ATAR everyone needed to get into their course, what you were aiming for, what you got in each of your assignments (so you could monitor where you were ranked in each subject). For every lesson that we were on computers, everyone would download UAI calculators (we were the first year to be on the ATAR system) and we'd calculate what marks in each subject would get us what ATAR. It was all my grade cared about.
And then after high school? Nothing. In almost 5 years I have never been asked my ATAR. In my first year of Uni, I managed to slip it into a few conversations, because I felt I'd worked my arse off, and for that much stress and pressure, I deserved to boast about it a little at least. But everyone was sort of like "well...yeah, we all had to get at least 93 to get into this course."
My best friend on the other hand was one of the few who didn't do very well in high school. To this day, I don't know her ATAR. But I've been told by our other friends she got like early 60s. Anyway, we both finished high school in 2009. She did a bridging course to get into Macquarie Uni. So basically she did her first semester off-campus somewhere, and if she got a credit average, then she could be accepted into her course at Macquarie, and start attending classes on the official campus. It worked, and she finished at the end of 2012, with a Bachelor of Communications - Media and Production. And all she had to do was her first semester off-campus, and that was only like 3 and a half months at the beginning of 2010.
Meanwhile, I f***ed up. Got into a bad relationship, experimented with drugs and just went through the general frustrations of being in the closet (constantly lying about where I was, etc) and my parents were always asking me where I was and were treating me like a child. I think I've told everyone in this thread my story before anyway, that I failed some subjects, moved out of home for a year/deferred for a year and a half and then went back.
I finish in a semester at the end of this year, but my point is, your ATAR really doesn't mean **** in the end. You can do a bridging course. My best friend got in the early 60s (from what I've heard) and I got 96.50 and she graduated with her dream degree (which she needed like 84 to get into normally) 2 years before I finished mine. Don't freak out about your ATAR/scores too much. They don't matter at all, unless you want to study medicine.
Just enjoy your last year of high school. There will come a point, maybe it's your final mass or final year assembly, when you'll look around and realise, you will never, ever be in the same room with all of those people ever again. Some of them, you'll never see again period. Some of them, you'll never even know what happens to them or what they became (usually those who don't have Facebook haha). Enjoy your last few months with those people. Even the ones you don't really like. They're way more important than a number you get, which a week after you get it, will just feel like any other random assignment mark that doesn't even matter.

thank you so much
My HSC trial exams are in 2 weeks, and i'm pretty nervous lol
but yeah, thanks so much for your reassurance. One of my really close family friends did her HSC in 2010, and got in the 60's. And now she's living in San Francisco living out her dream. While one of my friends cousin's got in the high nineties, was doing law at uni, and the stress got to much, and now he has no clue what he wants to do. She messaged me a couple of weeks ago and said pretty much what you did, it's not the be-all end-all. There are always other way.
But like you said, there;s always those people who think it's the most important thing ever. Like my friend is always asking me how many practise english essays have i written and **** like that, or how many hours of study i did and i'm like **** off and shut up and just let me live my life of stanning for taylor swift
i graduate on September 11, and i'm seriously going to miss school so much. Not really the studying side of it, but just like structure of it. I'll miss being able to see everyone every day, cause i know the ones who i'm friends with, but not close friends, will probably fade out of my life over the next couple of years
but thank you

I'm fine with my English-related subjects (English and Psychology), and Chemistry, it's mainly Physics and Maths I'm struggling with a biT, which is odd, since I've always been good at Maths. It's just so many concepts that need a LOT of revision and it takes a while for me to process everything properly, I guess. Like I get it, but I don't remember it unless I revise it, and I just don't revise much, lol.
I should be able to still get an ATAR in the 90's, but if I want to get one in the high 90's region, I REALLY need to start studying more. I mean, I've had THREE weeks where I've done absolutely nothing now in terms of study. That's pretty ridiculous for the amount of work I should have had done in that time.

I love how the rates for Uni decides to shoot through the roof when i'm a matter of months away... I'll be fine with a comfortable minimum wage.

I have a totally different direction I want to go in life compared to my friends, and I am fine with it. Idk, I just feel so drained and ready to move on and experience so many new cultures and meet so many new unique people.

It's a lot harder to make friends in Uni considering 90% of the people are weirdos. I haven't actually made a good friend from Uni. I've only made like three friends who I only would talk to in classes.

WaiT, you guys are the last year doing belonging?! I recently just thought of a killer creative story to do for belonging
After my preliminary exams, I am going to get all the study notes for subjects of the internet and study them A LOT during the term 3 holidays. Then when Christmas holidays come around, that is my time to shine and get a lot of sh!t done. I'll try not get too far ahead of myself but still, I like being prepared.
Like, I got handed a biology in class assignment on Friday and I already had the study notes ready to go the day I got the task

Oh really? I would rather just be a massive **** during my whole time at UNI anyway
--------------------
On another note, my biggest down fall in anything is defiantly essays. Argh, I am doing one for legal studies soon and I just genuinely hate them.

I feel sick. I just saw a trailer on channel 7 for a new show called 'Bringing Sexy Back' and saw my ex-boyfriend. After a bit of stalking online, I found out he's going to be the personal trainer on the show. And 'The Biggest Loser' is probably going to get axed so he's probably going about to have a career like Michelle Bridges. Fitness products, diet programs, his own DVD range, his own book range. I'm going to see his face everywhere.
I feel physically sick

I remember giving him career advice. One of our mutual friends got a job at X-Factor like 3 years ago as a runner (someone who drives the contestants around, gets the judges coffee, organises day-to-day tasks) so I told my ex he should try and get one of the judges as one of his clients and market himself as a "celebrity trainer." So my ex-flatmate got him training with Mel B's makeup artist (who was also gay) who eventually got him training with Mel B herself. Then he started popping up in The Sunday Telegraph, DailyMail, news.com.au and Perez Hilton alongside Mel B because he was getting shot by paparazzi training her, and it kept saying "celebrity trainer."
Then celebrity after celebrity started rolling in. Mel B, Luke Jacobz, Stan Walker, X-Factor contestants, Ajay Rochester, Jackie O, Jessica Mauboy. By this stage, we hated each other.
And now this. A TV show.
Seething a biT tbh

Don't you pay your HECS fees off in very small increments once you begin earning over a threshold? (be it $50,000 or what ever)

Yep, and it's only if it's domestically earned income. I have 3 cousins who moved overseas (1 to New York, another to Washington and another to London) and none of them have ever paid their HECS back because they've never made a cent above the threshold while living in Australia hahahaha. One works at Ernst & Young as a taxation lawyer, which is HUGE money. He and his wife have American citizenships now and their house in Washington is the biggest mansion you've ever seen. Their home gym and home theatres are a joke.
So to everyone here, if you plan on moving overseas after getting a degree, do it. It's a free degree haha.

Interesting Let me jot down some notes.
I am hoping to do international business or something in that manner, that allows me to travel all over the world.
But my final destination is the United States Of America hopefully in New York.
