Former One Direction member Zayn (Malik) takes his debut single “Pillowtalk” straight into the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, also landing at the top in England, Ireland and Scotland too.
“Pillowtalk” becomes the 582nd No.1 single for ARIA (1983 to 2016), plus the 68th for the RCA Record Label, their last being Grace with “You Don’t Own Me” (25-May, 2015), whilst by debuting at No.1 it becomes the 110th song to enter at the top of the Australian Singles chart and the first of the year, as in 2015 there were three songs that opened their chart careers at the chart pinnacle, “Hello” by Adele (2-Nov), “What Do You Mean?” by Justin Bieber (7-Sept) and his former band One Direction with their first and only No.1 here “Drag Me Down” (10-Aug), which means that Zayn has never appeared in a chart-topping single in Australia until now, as he was not on the bands track ‘Drag…’.
