I hope they are not worried about ad money from iPhones; iOS9 is going to remove ads from Safari. Apple is locking down the API and will no longer allow targeted ads. Their reasoning I believe is sound, the canvas for a webpage can't be controlled by them and many sites are irresponsible with their placement of ads, the number of ads and the behavior of ads so they are saying no more. That and they want to make the phone more in line with their privacy push.
Aps will still be allowed to have ads, many people see this as Apple pushing people off the web and in to the app store but I see it as them cleaning up the browser because inside aps ads can only be placed in a certain region and if they are intrusive they will block your app until you fix it.
If you like ads you can always use Chrome.
