It's kind of a shame that the album's merits get overlooked now because it was such a pop success. I don't care much for Macklemore's delivery, which evokes no feeling from me and grows tiresome after three or four tracks, and I absolutely hated the radio domination of Can't Hold Us, but I probably found more to like on it overall than Drake's last album.

One standard it didn't subvert is the amount of features. I think
The Heist had more features than a lot of rappers' albums released in recent years. I think only four tracks didn't have features.
And complete absence of samples?

"Same Love" and "Thrift Shop" contained samples.
