That's not that uncommon. when I'm really creative it can take an hour to make an instrumental and hour and that leaves five hours to record vocals which is about standard (a little long for a experienced singer).
I doubt that the 7 hour version is the one that is on the radio because if they mixed that in that period of time I wouldn't believe it. Hell Sia's Chandler was written and produced in about an hour but the production is much simpler than this.
