CARNIVAL RIDE This needs to sell at 20k/week. 10k/week is too little ... haha, too much expectation from Carrie
Record retailers across this great land of our not otherwise preoccupied picking off wolves from an airplane are now saying, “Thank God for Friday.”
Because that’s when the new Warner Bros. Metallica album, Death Magnetic, the heavy metal mainstay’s first since 2003’s St. Anger, arrives in stores worldwide.
Based on previous performance, the album could do around 400k, though there are questions how much the current economy will affect that number.
At any rate, it’s a prohibitive favorite to debut at #1 next week ahead of chart-topper Young Jeezy’s second week with the expected drop-off.
As for yesterday’s releases, Epic/SBMG Nashville’s newest country diva, Jessica Simpson, with the most discussed cleavage in Music City this side of Dolly Parton, is headed for a first-week of around 65-70k for her new Do You Know album. Now, you do.
Island/IDJ rap mainstay LL Cool’s new Exit 13 drops with an estimated first-week total of 40k, while Holly Berry’s ex, Eric Benet’s WB album, Love & Life, could do 35-40k, thanks to the Top 20 R&B hit, “You’re the Only One,” apparently not dedicated to Holly or David Duchovny.
Other newcomers include Fueled by Ramen’s Gym Class Heroes, fronted by Travis McCoy, someone who actually knows what it’s like to kiss Katy Perry. The group’s new release, The Quilt, looks in the 35-40k range.
Kardinal Offishall, on Akon’s Kon Live/Geffen label, is also in line for a Top 50 bow.
The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 8% vs. same week last year and now still down a steady 11% to date. This pig sure could use some lipstick of its own.

^LOL. We all know Jessica really sold over a million copies the first hour it went on sale but she doesnt want to end so all the other hoes' careers just yet. She's so nice ya'll!
Jewel sold less than that & she had a bigger single. Plus Jessica is supposedly "hated" by country fans so that doesnt fly. You cant expect her to compete with Carrie Underwood.
LOL, you're all treating her as if she's a country artist. She's Pop, no matter what. She's crazy if she thinks she's gonna establish herself as a 'serious' country artist after washing a car almost naked like she did in 2005. Oh, but she's crazy indeed.
Exactly. Plus she's a debut country artist. Hopefully it can have some type of longevity.
It would be terrible for a well known country artist, so FAIL.
IKR?
Why would pop fans buy her cd when her song doesnt even play on that format? Her song has been played on COUNTRY radio & all her promotion has been geared towards country fairs and whatnot. I'm sure some of her old fans are buying her cd but its mainly country fans.
Anthony and Mazen need some sweet **** to suck tonight. Jessica's is available to them apparently.
The 70k i believe are country fans. Possibly some of her pop fans followed her over of course, but that doesn't mean she got no country appeal. No matter how much negativity she got from some stations.

Of course Jessica's available.

Rico, is Papa Simpson paying you? I'm just wondering.
