Christina Aguilera bombs in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Quote:

Christina Aguilera’s show was an event not to be missed. That’s why I was surprised to see no big crowds in front of Palats Sportu shortly before the concert was supposed to begin on Oct. 21. Inside the situation was similar. The concert hall was quite empty.
Even though some of the viewers might have chosen to miss the opening act, knowing that the concert would likely begin an hour after its scheduled 7:30 p.m. start, the place still looked too deserted. After all, the organizers added another show to the program for a good reason: they envisioned a huge demand for tickets at Palats Ukraina. And it was indeed the first time that an internationally popular artist was going to play not one, but two concerts in this city.
However, they got a bit too greedy, dividing the dance-floor area of Palats Sportu into several parts, and selling tickets for the zone closest to the stage for more than $300. The result was plain to see – most of the audience that had arrived was crowded at the far end of the hall, having paid the lowest price they could, and the remaining two fan zones looked empty for the most part. It was more than clear that the guards would eventually be forced to let people from the back to the front, so that Christina wouldn’t have to sing before an empty space. And so they did in the end.
The opening act – hip-hop and R&B trio Potap and Nastya Kamenskikh – came onstage squarely at 7:30 p.m. Their trash pop show was funny to watch. Nastya at least has decent vocals, while Potap the rapper looked as ridiculous as most local rappers do, throwing in lame jokes here and there. But their simplistic appeal to the most undemanding audience, who saw them as “their own folk,” was easy to understand.
I was conveniently seated next to the stage, which turned out to be the main gathering place of all the “VIP” guests – local celebrities who weren’t able to get tickets for Palats Ukraina.
Most of them were apparently members of Ukrainian girl bands with their companions. There are so many of them now, it’s really hard to keep track, and, frankly, I don’t even try.
Finally, at about 9 p.m., the one who was already prophesied to replace Madonna as the new pop queen appeared in a white hat and pantsuit. Jazzy pop tunes played by an impressive band of musicians filled the air and Aguilera with her team of dancers took over the stage, proclaiming herself the true show woman from the start. She changed outfits several times and kept showering her audience with hits, without giving it a moment’s rest. Starting her show as a retro diva, she finished it as a 21st-century high-tech Barbarella – her newest image, performing her newest single “Keeps Gettin’ Better” and bringing on a powerful rock song “Fighter,” for the grand finale.
