Unless y'all really talented at writing in a straightforward fashion without sounding generic and cliche, I'd consider imagery as a very helpful friend
I don't recall much imagery in Adele's "Hello", but people will swear by it being a lyrical masterpiece.
You could argue that it works in the framing device of a phone conversation. Still wouldn't necessarily make it a lyrical masterpiece, but it does sound like an actual conversation.
