The theme is reigniting an old flame on what is clearly the
most underrated track on Nocturnes.
For me, this is easily one of my favourite songs in the entire
rate. The cold, dreamy synths and Victoria's soft, almost tired
vocals work together nicely. Lyrics are not usually Little Boots'
strong point, but the lyrics on "Strangers" are some of the
best of her entire career. Safe to say, I'm bitter.
What is the way to say it?
There seems no perfect way to play it.
"Everlovin' Ya" sees two lovers finally expressing their
feelings for one another.
Another song where I fail to understand why it's gone so
soon. "Everlovin' Ya" is by no means my favourite track on The Golden Echo, but it is by no means the worst.
Kimbra's distant layered vocals contrast really well with
Bilal's simple singing, and the instrumentation make me
think of films like the David Bowie movie, Labyrinth.
Enigmatic lyrics and a dreamy production create what is
probably the most abstract of Kimbra's bonus tracks. On "The
Magic Hour", she appears to be experiencing some sort of
existential crisis.
I like it, and I wish it had outlived "Slum Love", but
I'll survive.
Soon we're drawing swords and making circles,
Tip-toeing 'round the thing that really hurts most.
On "Crescendo", Victoria seems to put on her best early-Madonna/
early-Kylie impression to sing about two lovers being too stubborn
to admit either of them is wrong in an argument.
I think "Crescendo" has pretty weak lyrics, even by Vic's standards.
It's cute, I guess, but has very little replay value.
