- Mariah Carey released her 11th studio album E=MC˛. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 463,000 copies sold, making it the biggest opening week sales of her career. With 6 number one albums, Mariah is now tied with Janet Jackson in the US for the 3rd most number one albums for a female artist, behind Madonna with seven and Barbra Streisand's eight chart toppers.
- The first single from the album, Touch My Body, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Elvis Presley for the most number one singles for a solo artist.
- Bye Bye became the second single from the album. . It peaked inside the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 at #19 |
05. Mariah Carey
Mariah Cary is next in my list. Mariah had a good year I must say. Her latest album E=MC˛ had a good sales during it first weeks of release and the first single Touch My Body became her 18th #01 single in the US Billboard Hot 100. Other singles like Bye Bye, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time and I Stay In Love however didn't received the same success as Touch My Body though. She even married Nick Cannon this 2008, an event which is kinda shocking and unexpected. Her E=MC˛ may not be as big as The Emancipation Of Mimi, but her songs are still great to listen to. I just hope that the next Mariah Carey album will be another success and let's pray Mariah chooses the right singles next time.

04. Ne-Yo
R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo takes the 4th spot in my list. Ne-Yo obviously is one of the male artists that have a great 2008. His written compositions to other artists and his own hits are truly amazing. You can see that through Unfaithful, Irreplaceable, Let Me Love You and Spotlight while his own songs So Sick, Because Of You and songs from his latest album are also a hit. He released Year Of The Gentleman which span the hits Closer, Miss Independent and Mad. His songwriting skills is his weapon, he really knows how to deliver a message in a song. Ne-Yo proves that he is here to stay and he will come up with more songs that will surely dominate the charts.

03. Chris Brown
The male artist of 2008 is in my #03 in my list. Chris Brown has improved a lot from his Run It days establishing a name for himself. I started to appreciate Chris when he released With You, an R&B perfection to listen to. I then look forward on his next singles like Forever & Superhuman and both are decent indeed. He truly deserves the title of Male artist of the year; he collaborated with Jordin Sparks for No Air, he wrote Rihanna's Disturbia and he is featured on the singles from Ludacris, Lil' Mama and T-Pain. It's been a blessed year for Chris Brown and having so much recognition both in the charts and receiving awards.
Top 2 Artists will be tomorrow...
