I am referring to the people who bash, drag, and flame opinions in opposition of gay marriage. Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be beneficial to hear the side of those who oppose you and show them righteousness? Calling someone's opinion "irrelevant" is offensive. Throwing around the word "homophobia" is wrong. It turns this site into one side and that one side whines and complains about the world. When some explains their thinking they are bashed and beat into submission. they they go back to whining and complaining about the site.
I am for gay marriage and equality regardless of sexual orientation, but I like to hear the opinions of those in opposition. They often are misguided and have the wrong idea. My opinion was changed by several sensible people both in person and online.
Just ask yourself, "what good is this post doing?" That is my point.

First of all, justifying why somebody is against equality is not an excuse for anything.
This is like trying to find reasons why African Americans should not have the same rights like European/ White Americans. There isn't anything to discuss. Give ppl who respect and love eachother, the same value as others. PERIOD
It's not the problem of sane ppl that we have plenty of idiots walking around on this planet.

A better way to respond would be to explain why homosexuality is NOT a lifestyle. You are attacking those who believe that. CLEARLY, they are wrong, so point it out and explain why. Inform those who live in ignorance.
Example:
lifestyle (ˈlaɪfˌstaɪl)
n
1. a set of attitudes, habits, or possessions associated with a particular person or group
2. such attitudes, etc, regarded as fashionable or desirable
My friend likes to have sex with two men at the same time. That is a lifestyle. My neighbor like to smoke crack. That is a live style. I want to marry the man I love after being in a commitment I have been in for 5 year. That is not a lifestyle. It is a right I am unfairly not entitled to.

Dude, I don't have to explain. This is not something poppin up for the first time. And it was discussed several, millions of times before. When somebody dosen't get it, I can call them out on their ignorance. I am sick and tired of explaining everything to everybody just like they are 5 year olds, because they are not.

This might seem obvious to you but it won't seem obvious to everyone on this planet for several different reasons : educational, historical, cultural or societal backrounds being the main ones. It is not easy to detach yourself from a specific cultural environement, if all your life you have been raised to think one specific way, you won't easily abandon those views, especially if the person on the other side is being agressive, calling you an 'idiot' or a 'non sane' person. That will just make them more defensive.
You have to understand where people come from to understand their views and then you have to EDUCATE them, explain to them why the views that they preach are wrong and why it would be a progress for everyone if they were to change their views. You first have to be tolerant even towards those who you perceive are not at first to hope that one day they will all be tolerant.

How does that change anything ? Some people on ATRL will also have a specific backround that might explain their views on things. Behave with them like you would with anybody acting that way in the real world : educate.

During the days of the Equal Rights Movement, it was debated frequently. And the opinion of those who oppose it mattered because their view was able to be changed due to the blacks opening up that conversation. They also had to convince people to give to equality daily, despite the oppression.
In this argument is is especially it is important to entertain conversations with those who oppose gay marriage because YOU can directly change their opinion. Their opinion does count on voting day. You can be the difference between a vote for or against gay marriage. That is why I am saying actively find out why they feel the way they do. So them what is right.
If they are a bigot, they are a bigot. Flame, bash, call irrelevant, just do what you do. I will say though, most people here are not bigots, they are just not informed and believe what their parents taught them. They are not five, but for those where gay rights is generally not an issue for them, this is where their opinions are formed and cemented. Don't do something that would give them the wrng or a bad impression.
(btw, this is not just to you, but everybody.)

There you go again. Shutting people down who simply want to be civil. He was saying that the ATRL community comes from across the world. Different cultures come together to express their love for music. When political situations like this come up, some are not as well informed and we should inform, not bash. We should listen and educate, not shut down.

Oh please, you are acting like people in Western countries who have all access to education are just the victims of a conservative upbringing and when gay people dare to call them out on their s'''t is just, it's they gays fault because we don't have patience for them to overcome their self-pity and ignorance?
No.
It's another case in some parts of the world and in some parts of society, but I am not speaking about them at all.
I am speaking about those ppl who SHOULD know better and who get protected all the time.
I have zero tolerance for that.

People are being absolutely ridiculous about this. He tweeted him, he likes the show…that's all. Nothing about any of it is homophobic, that's beyond reaching. I feel bad for him that he's getting so much crap from this.

lol, I'm not any of those things. He likes Duck Dynasty, the TV Show. How in the world does that equate to him believing in everything that they believe in? Their show has nothing about sexuality at all, this uproar is all because one of the cast members one time said something homophobic.
I'm a fan of Lady Gaga's….she is pro-choice, I'm pro-life. If I were to tweet Lady Gaga and say "I'm a fan of yours, I support what you do!" In no way does that equate to "I'm pro choice!" Like….

but he didn't just say " i support what you do" .. he said he respects the family values they have ,and that is what people are so offended about
And you wouldn't go tweeting Gaga saying you have huge respect towards her opinion on abortion now would you?

Amen! and gay isn't some lifestyle you chose, it's either you are one or are not.
Why do we have to keep explaining something so simple, love is love, everybody deserves equal rights.
