What about them? They've both grown as artists. Do you think if Rihanna was still making dancehall music and Katy making pop-rock they'd be as massive as they are now? This song's a regression to the late 90's/early 2000's, she's trying to satisfy a fan base that loves to hate on her. She has plenty of good urban tracks on PFRR, but she ditched them for this.

I really wanted to support her for taking a more urban direction again, but this isn't the way to do it.

Basically tbh. Urban fan bases aren't very open to sharing their artists with the pop world. It's just two of those genres that don't mix Country fans let their faves take off on pop, same with Latin, dance, some indie artists, but urban isn't forgiving or interested in sharing.
