REVIEW: "ALBUM OF THE YEAR? I "BELIEVE" SO!"
If there has ever been a time when I've never been more impressed than ever by Justin Bieber, it's now. This review is based off of just a few listens, so obviously I'm speaking off of my first reaction to this music, but here is my honest opinion. It's a killer album. I'm not a legitimate critic. I'm just a guy who loves pop music... I've always been a fan of Justin, but he just took it to an entirely new level. He has a hot girlfriend, millions of girls that obsess over him, a voice that could kill, a ton of cash, dance moves that I envy, & now another amazing album. I'm speechless, but I've got enough inspiration to write this review. I got the album right when it came out... I didn't listen to ANY of the leaked material & it was well worth the wait. I managed to get someone to "gift" it to me for FREE. See? THAT is how nice "Beliebers" are. They might be crazy, but they know how to support their idol. Anyways... THE MUSIC! He has matured so much... I feel like I'm growing up with the kid! As I grow up, so does his sound. It's incredible to hear the evolution of a teen superstar. He honestly DOESN'T get the respect that he deserves, but this album is the key that will open the door to some good ole' R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Dang. I "BELIEVE" in the power of this teenage heartthrob.
SONG BY SONG:
ALL AROUND THE WORLD: This is an incredible song. Just like the rest of the music industry has, he has expanded into the dance genre. It is my favorite genre by far, so that explains why I love this song. It was a promotional single, so I already know all of the words on the first listen, which made it more fun. "Luda" is back & its the first time since the HIGHLY memorable hit known as "Baby". It was smart to add him to the track. The flow of the song? The chorus soars... It is READY for the dance floor. This song is destined to be a hit. It's a gem & it did a SUPERB job on opening up the album. It is the perfect song to kick it off. Future single? We can only hope.
BOYFRIEND: I remember staying up until 12:00 on a school night JUST to buy this song... I remember staying up until 2:00 just to decided how I felt about it... What can I say? It is an unexpected SMASH. I liked it on the first listen, but now I love it. The video, the performances, the matured sound, the new style, the usage of unique words (fondue, swaggy, etc.)... I love it. It will be remembered as his "turning point" single. Say hello to the MAN & not the "little boy from YouTube". This is a well deserved hit.
AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME: Is this my favorite song on the album? Probably. He has ventured into the wild word of "DUBSTEP". The verses are full of wub-wub-wub-wub-DROP. Ever since this song was released as a promotional single, I have been obsessed. The verses are hard, electronic, & will have you feeling like a musical robot, but then the chorus comes in... From the cutting & jumpy verses, the song EXPLODES into this soft chorus that proves that Justin Bieber is ready to take his crown as the "King of Pop". I don't say that lightly, but that might have to do with me not being such a big MJ fan. GOODBYE, MICHAEL. People might disagree, but this song is epic & proves that he deserves the title. This song will literally take you for a ride. All of the ladies will literally MELT when they hear the chorus. "As long as you lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo". Okay. You get the point. His vocals SOAR over the word "love" & it sounds like you're in musical heaven. THIS IS BEGGING FOR A PROPER RELEASE! Next single? I wish.
CATCHING FEELINGS: This is where the album gets a little bit more interesting... The beat slows down & the mood switches from a club-banging album to a melting pot of urban genres. This is a different track, but it fits well with the rest of the album, as a whole. "Do, doot, do, do..."
TAKE YOU: I LOVE THIS! The verses are jumpy & urban sounding, but then a splitting chorus comes on the scene. It then turns into another dance song. It is very catchy & almost has some sort of island/summer-y feel to it. This song also features a breakdown which proves that he has got his hands on some AMAZING producers. Every song so far, including this one, has very clean & crisp production. He has quite the team behind him. Great production & a great beat. Another great song? Yes, indeed.
RIGHT HERE: Drake? Is that you? YES! The duet actually works... It has a mood that is totally R&B. This one is going to fly up the charts as well. It takes a trip back to REAL R&B. This is another great track & it will be remembered as another crossover track.
FALL: This song is going to be a fan favorite. No doubt. It is very laid back & it does a fantastic job of speaking to the audience. The ending is acapella & that winds it down PERFECTLY! The ladies will make this song personal, but from my perspective, it's a perfect song that is right up his alley. It's not like it matters, but I approve. I love it.
DIE IN YOUR ARMS: This song is very special. It was also one of the promotional singles for the album. GREAT MOVE by his label. It gives you a taste of the new style of Justin. It has a style similar to one of Bieber's inspirations, Michael Jackson... It is an easy-going song that has a catchy melody & a light rhythm. He sticks to what he likes best in this unique tune... It's yet ANOTHER song about love, but I'm very glad that it is. Well done on this track.
THOUGHT OF YOU: I really like this song. What do I like most? THE CHORUS! When he says "I'm in love with the thought of you", he sounds similar to Usher. That high-pitched falsetto is incredible. Then, it gets choppy, in a very good way. He adds the hook, "thought of you-ooh-ooh" & it makes the track 10 times better. It's catchy & his voice soars on the falsetto notes. The verses are good & the chorus seals the deal. Another great track... Wow.
BEAUTY AND A BEAT: NICKI MINAJ?!? YES! She says the "b word" & also has a very racy line, but is it a standout track on the album? YES! "Buns out, wiener, but I gotta watch out for Selener." I LAUGHED PRETTY HARD! It is definitely one of my favorites because I love Onika (Nicki Minaj). The duet also opens doors for him to expand even further out into other genres. This was very smart of his label... It is going to be a sure fire HIT. It will probably crack the charts in just a matter of hours. The teens & young adults are surely going to JUMP on this one. The breakdown & the rest of the song's production (which is produced by Zedd, who is supposedly going to make future hits with Gaga) is incredible. Future single? DUH!!!
ONE LOVE: "Oh-a-oh-a". The hook is very catchy. It is a very smooth song. It is a much more relaxed song & the album continues to flow very smoothly. The chorus is catchy, but isn't everything that he sings catchy? Yes. I love it. It's simple, yet affective.
BE ALRIGHT: This song is very laid back... With the acoustic guitar in the back, his voice is highlighted. It's a sweet, heartfelt tune that is reassuring to someone in need of a boost from their favorite teen icon. "Everything's gonna be alright" & he truly means it. The song is filled with passion that is sure to be felt by his true fans. It's perfect.
BELIEVE: He definitely did the title track justice... It is an ANTHEM for him & his fans. It tells the entire outline of his story. Then, out of nowhere, a choir comes out & joins him in an epic chorus. It sounds like a finale song for "American Idol", but that's exactly what it needed to sound like. It's uplifting & was needed in his discography. This song is a celebration & it is another very, very good track that will forever be special to him & his fans.
OUT OF TOWN GIRL: This song starts out with this very funky beat. The entire song could be summed up in one word... DIFFERENT. It's not pop. It's a genre of it's own. The instrumental is whack & I love it. The words flow with the funky beat throughout the entire song. It is another enjoyable track. "All you gotta do is swag." He definitely did that. No doubt.*
SHE DON'T LIKE THE LIGHTS: It starts out with sound effects of actual cameras flashing... I like that. It gets inside of his world. You wonder what he REALLY thinks about the full-package deal of "fame". He opens up in this song to an extent & it is ANOTHER great song. Is he talking about Selena? *No matter what, it's a great tune. The vocals are on-point & it's another beat that could thump at a dance party.
MARIA: He went IN on the girl that spread the pregnancy rumors... HAHAHA! GOT HER! I love how he wrote a song that totally bashed the woman in a public way. Is it too harsh? No. I'm so glad that he did this. Wise move & smart move. PROVE THEM HATERS WRONG! As for the actual song, the lyrics are REAL & the beat is funky. It's another GREAT track & it's bound to be very personal to him & his countless fans.
LOVE YOU LIKE YOU DO: This song is something totally unexpected... It sounds like a song that could be played in a sauna. It will put you to sleep, but in a good way. It is the perfect way to close out the album... When he raps, he does it with a style that is similar to Drake. Does he ace the act of rapping? YES! The smooth rhythm topped off with his signature charming voice. It's simply a soothing song. It reminds me of "Climax" by Usher, "Skin" by Rihanna, "Inside Out" by Britney, & "Dance for You" by Beyoncé. They all have that song that would be perfect for, ya know...
CONCLUSION: All in all, these songs will make you think about that special someone... As a male fan, I can say that I approve of my future girlfriend being a fan of JB. I've been a HUGE fan since "One Time" & he is showing no signs of NOT progressing. He has improved in every which way possible. Truly, he has created a masterpiece. He has so much talent & I respect him so much. Great talent & a great record. It will have a lot of success & we all know that. #1 debut on Billboard? It's destined. Grammy nomination? It's likely. RESPECT? It's a given. Well done, Dr. Bieber. I'm officially diagnosed with "Bieber Fever".
ALBUM = (10/10).
