Discussion: Why people here say R&B is "local"?

With regard to the race issue, let's be real, a lot of people in Latin America and south Asia do pay dust to certain artists because of their race.
But R&B is certainly not local. Especially when it has for decades influenced a lot of pop music and even some other genres. Certain people are ignorant to that reality, but their ignorance doesn't erase fact.

Stop with this blatant lie, Whitney didn't even touch R&B for the first decade of her career and not fully untill My Love Your is Love album.
|
YOU stop with the lying. Whitney's first single, You Give Good Love, was R&B. Her debut was a mix of pop and R&B tunes. Same with her second album. I'm Your Baby Tonight was almost completely R&B. I'm Every Woman and Queen of the Night? R&B. Her cuts on the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack? R&B. Some of the non-gospel tunes on The Preacher's Wife? R&B.

No they weren't.
The fact that some of y'all can be this clueless when you have access to ALL these artists' records is just so ATRL. "Lemme rewrite history and make **** up to prove a point and because I really don't know what the **** I'm talking about".

even though some of you would love to pull that card.

basically this!
En Vogue was R&B but they were HUGE in Europe! Don't Let Go (Love) is a bop to this day

Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Aaliyah, Amerie are respected in Europe!
tho I have to mention that their biggest hits are pop or club influenced songs like Family Affair for Mary + rock collab with U2, Aaliyah's Timbaland produced songs had underground club sound which was dope at the time, Amerie's 1 Thing was very pop-ish song, but Alicia Keys on the other hand was HUUUUUUGE with Fallin'! Biggest R&B song of all time tbh!
Kelly Rowland's biggest hits here come from her club inspired 3rd album while her 4th one flopped in Europe and people were dissapointed
Ciara's also had big hits with Timbaland/Missy produced tracks!
I guess if you sing R&B music like Adele, then songs like "Don't Let Go (Love)" and "Fallin'" will be huge, but other sexual R&B songs will flop!

Yeah... Adele isn't R&B, Family Affair is not pop or club influenced & Kelly has multiple hits WW that weren't pop lol
And Fallin isn't the biggest R&B song ever

It also reached top 20 in Germany and others coutries as well, it did not hit the top ten, but it had considerable longevity.
Sure, she pales in comparasion to others on the OP but she did had success.

Thats 1 album and 1 single from her whole discography that actually did decent outside the US, the rest of her albums are flops outside the US. And those chart positions are not a huge success either.

Because it's better for that genre to stay local....it's so boring tbh...
I mean, I love also R&B songs, but the "only R&B-hip-hop" trend needs to eclypse imo. I prefer a bit more uplifting dance songs.

I didn't said that Adele is R&B, but that Alicia Keys sounds like Adele type of music but only in R&B genre.
Yes, Family Affair has a club inspired beat that Dr. Dre produced.
Kelly's WW hits are When Love Takes Over, Commander, Motivation and Lay On Me. The last two are considered more R&B, but still they are not pure R&B as the songs use electronic club beats in them too.
Fallin' IS one of the biggest R&B songs in Europe, my point still stands.

r&b was much more global during the 90s and early 00s everywhere, but imo as pop got less r&b influenced and more edm influenced r&b as a whole became a lot more local. yes, mariah, whitney, janet etc. were big in the 90s but recent r&b artists aren't having anywhere near as much global impact. that's just how it feels to me anyway.

lol Kelly's biggest hit is an R&B song & one of =/= biggest, like you said!
& Family affair is hip hop at its finest. When you say club, are talking about something you'd hear in a club or some EDM Dance mess because I'm confused

You said that she never had success outside the states and yet the receipts say the opposite even if it was just for once, which is the thread about.
Also how is not huge? Top ten in other 14 countries, 15 in total and was among the biggest hits globally from its own year. Something does not need to hit #1 everywhere to be considered "huge" .

Canada, Western Europe, Northern Europe, Israel, the GCC, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Oceania are all as developed as the US, and no one gives a single rat's ass about R&B there.
Take your xenophobic bullsh it somewhere else because it will not make R&B any more than local to African-American communities

Kelly's biggest global hit as a lead artist is Dilemma, an R&B song. Don't know why you guys keep forgetting it.

Edit: Never mind I do remember it being his song now
