I don't think she's saying that the "pain" is literally in the music and lyrics of ARTPOP but rather in the process that was of making the album, thus resulting in a lackluster album.
This wasn't really ARTPOP shade as much as it was a self-realization that it was not her best work.
The bitch has never criticized her previous music - neither outright or with subtlety. Some of you are pulling things out of your ass like it's a rope.

Gaga has said there will always be an echo of BTW in her work. Plus she still carries on with the BTW foundation. BTW is probably her most essential and favorite album. She probably gets annoyed with her earlier work at times because it is put on a pedestal that she must adhere to, despite the fact that she probably feels as though she has grown and has more to show now than before.
I am anxious to see what she does next. I am hoping it is refreshing and listenable!

Excited to hear what she has to offer. I stanned thanks to ARTPOP. I felt for her and felt for her pain during that era. The record was good but I understand why some may not enjoy it. For me it captured the emotion of anxiety and fear PERFECTLY. it was pretty sad to see messages in the album come to life through her personal struggles but that made the album seem more reflective and real. I hope this new album is easier to digest universally for the masses and for the haters to shuz up but all in all I wouldn't be mad if it was thematically similar to ARTPOP. Sonicly I'd like an evaluation and more relatable topics but ya thematically I enjoyed the stuff found in ARTPOP. sorry not sorry.
