4-5 Seconds, looking at it now, seems like a failed attempt at renewing Rihanna's image, and Kanye West and Paul McCartney couldn't even save that image for Rih, which is probably why the album they were makin got scrapped and started over.
Applause was Gaga's comin back as well, but ended up being a more GP-relatable ego-boosting song that clicked better than the whatever-the-hell 45S was. As well, as much as she said she disliked it, her "Pop emergency" rival/comparison with Katy Perry didn't hurt her any, just made her fan base more rabid to boost her sales.
