I think they were trying to be shady. She's like Kate Bush (has a similar name, is a female pop singer-songwriter with dark hair) without the everything (talent, acclaim, respect, artistry etc.)
people are taking this way too seriously
just because the author was wrong about bland ass Taylor doesn't mean the Katy dragging wasn't accurate and hilarious

Why are the Katy stans accusing Monsters & Taylor stans of writing this?
Majority of the GP has this opinion of Katy. Why are ya'll shocked? Take off your stan glasses.

This piece saddens me. There are some reasonable critiques to be made of Perry's work, such as the "I Kissed A Girl" pandering to the male gaze, but this piece goes well beyond a reasonable critique. The fallacy of "stacking the deck" is all over the piece (ignoring evidence that contradicts Havrilesky's opinion of Perry). But worse, it's just mean-spirited.

I'm 26 and I think this is bullsh/t. It's ridiculously sexist (despite being written by a woman) and terribly judgmental. The arguments advanced don't even make sense.

At least she's not Swift.
theres a few agreeing of course but im sure most of you have read them already
"Katy Perry is as conflicted and complex as a pumpkin-spice rug-and-room deodorizer. She doesn't have a look. She never changes. The Katy Perry of 2010 is the same as the Katy Perry of 2015. Her hair color is different here and there. That's it. She wears tight, glittery, rainbow-colored dresses and black eyeliner. Always and forever a Super Star Barbie circa 1988."
I fail to see how this is even that shady. There are much more shady parts in the article. This is just calling her bland, like we know she isn't Gaga or Miley
