Doing challenges will get you benefits, trust me (even if you don't win the first spoon). but yeah, you can practically win without participating in most of the challenges.

Pretty much Though there are times where Element will make people who haven't participated in any challenges be forced to do a challenge, and everyone who has done previous ones will sit out of that specific one. So it's good to at least try a few.

Also the spoon-grabbing is basically a challenge in itself. It might seem easy to do at first but once the numbers dwindle down, especially in the top 10, it can be difficult to get a spot due to how everyone is rushing to get one.

pretty much this. If you're active in the thread you'll get top 10-20 usually without a problem, but once it's top ~15, it's fierce competition. The server doesn't always cooperate, so that's a challenge in itself as well.
