Has there ever been any scientific research on this? I tried looking for this online but couldn't find anything.

This is true.

Maybe we could ask that one member that does those music surveys at their college to conduct an experiment.

They are more exciting and eccentric. And no, I don't wanna be a girl. Speak for yourself.

My personal faves are Headfirst Slide, Tiffany Blews, and 20 Dollar Nose Bleed, but the entire album is nearly perfect imo.

I've seen some members here call the ...Baby One More Time and Teenage Dream albums "masterpieces." At least pick an excellent pop album if you're gonna call it a masterpiece!

Honestly because the female singers are much, much, much more interesting than the guys. Girls have much more interesting costumes, music subjects, and such as far as pop music goes. Guys are put into a box of being overtly masculine, too powerful sexually, and wearing the same boring things when performing. Theres nothing interesting.

Then you aren't listening to the right male artists, because there are plenty of interesting ones out there. This "box" is something that you put men into. With the thread referencing "generic pop girls," I also find it hard to believe that these artists have more interesting subjects in their music than various male artists. A majority of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Kesha songs are either about a relationship or partying. Some of the best male albums from the year are about different topics (Muse's Drones) or tackle topics like love and sex with more depth and tact than mainstream female artists (Nate Ruess' Grand Romantic and Miguel's Wildheart).
Female have also released some great albums so far this year, like Fifth Harmony, Madonna, Sleater-Kinney, and Hop Along, but tbh I prefer most of the male albums that I've heard so far. And this isn't an attack on you, but also everybody who said something similar about male artists being boring; a claim such as that is just ridiculous honestly.

People were calling Meghan's sound a throwback when All About That Bass smashed last year...
And male artists who create generic radio music are also dragged. Just look at Maroon 5, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, and Pitbull.

Also Xtina did the throwback sound in 2006 and no one called her generic. I swear these robots are programmed to spew out "Misogyny!!!!!, Self-Hate!!!!111, Internalized Homophobia!1!1!1!1" every chance they get. It's hilarious

Well, there is a sense of that when you have posts in here like "cuz they wanna be the girls", it's a very uneducated viewpoint. There's obviously discussion on both side.

I agree it is ignorant, but to label everything misogyny and self-hate is just as ignorant. Why are people fighting ignorance with ignorance?

Just finished reading, wow.
I like both male and female artists. I like the empowerment anthems girls tend to have, but also the mellow I will be your rock message from the men

All of those things you mentioned are very serious, and in almost all of the times someone mentions them, it's justified. Your thread title comes across as rather misogynistic. For some reason, you singled out women in it and failed to acknowledge in the OP that generic male music is just as common as generic female music, if not more.
Xtina is one of the very few women in music who have respect from the industry. As for Meghan, I'm not sure if you noticed, but she received massive media backlash for something a male would get a slap on the wrist for.

I singled out women because ATRL, and a good portion of the gay community, stans for pop women only. You know damn well this is true. How many Flo Rida or Pitbull or Taio Cruz gay stans do you know?
It's not misogyny and it's not self-hate. There's good male and female music (as well as bad male and female music), nobody ever doubts that. The original question was, why are us gays obsessed with pop girls almost exclusively?

My point still stands. Also, just for the record, most men who are misogynists aren't aware of it.

Completely agree. But misogyny is not what's happening in this thread. See my edited post above.

But that's the thing. You thinking that pop girls are generic is just your opinion. On the other hand, I, and probably a lot of other members on this forum, don't think they are. It's simply not true that "if you heard one, then you've heard them all". You can find many differences between Britney's music, and Madonna's, and Kesha's, and Katy's, and Gaga's, and so on.

My only mistake was using the word "generic", I shouldn't have and I apologize for that. For the record I've stanned for Kylie, Britney, Rihanna, Kesha, Katy, and Gwen at different points in my life. I love female pop but again that was not the intended purpose of this thread. The question is, why do some of us only use pop girls and instantly dismiss everything else?
Also your sig is making me uncomfortable

I love music by women and men about equally (well more like male bands cause most solo male artists suck), but here I am just a Katy Perry stan cause she's the artist that excites me the most.

This thread is hilarious. Talking about bunching all male artists as boring and uninteresting.

Trying to spot a single talented and intelligent male pop artist that isn't an asshole. Still can't see any.
I use Brandon Flowers from time to time, but he's not really popular enough to be considered a pop star. And no, Bruno Mars does not count with his throw-back sound and predictably outfits.
