Monkey Business better than Elephunk? Monkey Business had "My Humps", and that's about it. "Don't Lie" was boring and repetitive, "Pump It" was....yeah. "Don't Phunk With My Heart" was great for the first month.
Elephunk however, is amazing. "Shut Up", "Hey Mama", "Where Is The Love?", "Let's Get It Started"...all amazing songs. This era and The E.N.D. are the same to me, because they both show more of their hip-hop side, with The E.N.D. of course having electro production. Monkey Business was just the typical follow-up album after a debut (or in their case, breakout).

"Don't Lie" & "Pump It" are not repetitive or meh, both songs are amazing and different.

It was a huge hit in the UK! BEP were not that popular in the US when they released their first album, but they have always had success here. They seem to remember that

I can't believe "Shut Up" wasn't as successful in the US as it was around the world!
"Request Line" from their 2nd album, i think it was the first song that got a lil bit of success and it was in UK

I regret purchasing Elephunk. I did not like that album. There are a few good songs, but for the most part, it's very dull. Also, here in the U.S., "Let's Get It Started" isn't on the album. Just "Let's Get Retarded," which kind of disturbs me. It sucks how other countries got "Let's Get It Started" on the album, but we didn't. Also, the radio version of "Hey Mama" is great, but the version on the album is... different. "Shut Up" is great. "Where Is the Love" is amazing, but another song is tacked on, and I hate it when they do that!
Monkey Business and The E.N.D.
Haven't heard anything from their first two albums, though.

I think it's unfortunate that many people seem to focus on lyrics as the main element of music. The brain deals mainly with enjoying pleasant sounds, not words, but when people think otherwise and pick up lyrics rather than the complexities of the instrumental and the actual melody, I think you lose something. I think that songs should be popular based solely off their merit as an orchestration of sound, not lyrics. I Gotta Feeling surely deserved the number one around the world based off of the instrumental, and I like to think that that was the main reason why it was so huge - not the actual lyrics. With the 20th century focus on propriety and social conservatism, which led to scrutiny on lyrical content, part of the purity of enjoying music has been lost.

I think it's the melody of a song that makes you like it initially, but they lyrics are what holds you. There has to be a balance between the two.

I do suppose.
I like when songs such as "Imma Be" get popular. Really, there's virtually nothing there lyrically. "Imma Be" is an instrumental style song. (Not instrumental in the context that there are no vocals, but that the vocals are more likely to be interpreted by the brain musically rather than lyrically because the lyrics are not substantial in any way).

Will We Are The World really go number one after only being digitally released for two days and having no airplay or anything? I think Imma Be will go Number One and it will go number one next week

I hope Imma Be goes to #1! I agree with ppl the new We Are The World is good but as good as the original and doesn't really need to go to #1.

Another factor as to why lyrics are important is that people like to sing along to songs! If you don't like the lyrics then there is a good chance that you won't like the song, I'm often like that. To me songs are not always meaningless, and their lyrics can be influential. I agree with your point though, alot of songs become massive hits on a musical basis rather than a lyrical one.

Oh, well, I like being able to sing songs as well! Lyrics are indeed a component of modern music; they need to be there. For me, I do fall victim to not liking songs due to lyrics (Rude Boy and Not Fair, for example, I thought were tacky) until I realise that I just cannot not like a song due to lyrics. For me, if I find the cohesive sound of the song pleasing, I like it. I think that songs should be firstly listened to by sound; this is difficult to do today because of the focus that people put on lyrics. I think this means that so many people are unable to enjoy songs that they actually find pleasing, but tell themselves otherwise.
Speaking of lyrics, am I the only one who finds the incorrect grammar in "We are the World" extremely annoying?
