Lemony Snicket doesn't want anyone to read his books and this is just part of the facade. Honestly, there's no way that a fan could do this. This level of quality and attention to detail needs a production crew. I think it's just a guerilla marketing style to gain some buzz.

This is what I want to believe. He starts out the movie by saying not to watch it and he tells you to put his books down in the first chapters...but his tweet on the matter did not seem to be laced with any of that character. He genuinely seemed to love the "teaser" and acknowledged it as fanmade...
Then again, Netflix calling it marvelous and choosing to leave it up is suspicious, too, and makes me think this is just some kind of viral campaign. You would think they would be trying a little harder to diffuse the situation, even if it is free promo for them.
(Tbh, I won't believe it is fake until someone vlogs about making it and shows how they made it
