Retina, more standard memory and storage, all the hardware enhancements they added. A 13" Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is the same price as the base model MacBook with the same specs, yet the MacBook is clearly the better choice.
The lack of ports is the only weakness with the MacBook but people are excited about USB-C and there's hardly a use for ports anymore besides charging your phone or plugging in an external hard drive. Just because someone wants a Retina display doesn't mean they're a power user either. My sister has an Air and the low resolution is intolerable after having an RMBP for 3 years. There's really no reason to buy the Air anymore and it'll soon be phased out now that there's an even thinner MacBook in the product line.
Go ahead and call it a misfire. It's going to sell like hotcakes regardless!
