Well, I'm not sure about nowadays, but back in the 80's/90's people used to finish albums recording sessions even DAYS before the release. Michael Jackson is an example.
Mariah did it with "Rainbow", she shot Heartbreaker & then went to her studio and locked herself in their so she could finish it & release it RIGHT AWAY.

Rainbow is one of her worst albums. Except for Heartbreaker everything else seemed rushed because it was. She only released it to fill out her Sony Contract.
I liked it, Can't Take That Away, After Tonight, Thank God I Found You, Did I Do That?, How Much, Vulnerability, Crybaby were the best of the album IMO

What? Rainbow was like the first album that got me into this whole Mariah thing....
I never knew Heartbreaker was meant for Glitter. Now I look back and think of Rainbow, it does seem a tad rushed. There are some beautiful songs on there (Can't Take That Away, Bliss <3)
Rainbow's singles are pretty amazing - Heartbreaker, Thank God I Found You, Can't Take That Away - but the rest of the album is indeed filler after filler.
