This is the song that should have been the male Iggy Azalea's pop breakthrough. "Let's Get Lost" is great pop song that is just so euphoric to me and I know if he would have pushed it it would have been massive. Devon is a goddess as always on the chorus and Gerald slays hims verses as per. It's a BIT basic after a while but still it should have been big And the music video is soooooooo good omg you can feel the emotions and its beautiful.
I know it has it's HATERS! but "Birthday" is one of Katy's best singles imo. In fact if it didn't flop like it did I'd have it way higher but I need to keep my credibility. I love the throwback sound and it's just pure Katy. Like the lyrical content is her to a T. Its also produced flawlessly, especially that bridge >>>>> "It's time to bring out the big ha-loons!" >>>>> I also LOVED the music video and thought it was so perfect and funny.
Yassssss snap sis! When this came, lord I was so ready for the slayage that was to occur, only unfortunately I didn't get the rest of it till like a year later when TPP finally dropped but w/e. The minimal production is a perfect path for Nicki to CARVE and LASH with her verses which she does. My only issue with the song is the overuse of "*****" but I know that's kind of the point so ddd
OK I will never understand the flopping of this song! Seriously so underserved for this MASTERPIECE! I love the atmospheric production and Ella her lyric game on point like usual. I'd have placed this much higher but by the time they finally got around to releasing it I was pretty much over it. Also idk if y'all have heard the Flume remix or not but check it out it is SICKENING YOU MIGHT DIE FROM IT! you've been warned, wear ear condom for the slayage they are about to undergo.
Honestly, if this song didn't have it's AMAZING chorus it'd almost be bland. But really, that chorus and hook destroy lives >>>>> and apparently Ella her career cuz she's been flopping ever after! But still I love my sis and can't wait for her new album that better be coming this year (2015)!
If there was any album I battled with in 2014 it was 'Ultraviolence'. Lana's debut, 'Born To Die', cemented itself as one of my favorite pop albums of all time, so when I first heard the alternative, grunge-y, rough first single off of this album, "West Coast", I knew I was in for some trouble. Much of the album was very inaccessible to me upon my first few listens and still a few songs remain a mystery to me. The alt-rock sound that pulses through the album isn't something I'm overly down with, but it does create a great backdrop for Lana's songwriting. Some songs can really put me in a trance while I listen to the lyrics, such as the flawless "Brooklyn Baby", while others can just plain put me to sleep, like "Pretty When You Cry" and "The Other Woman". Another issue I have with the sound that carries the album is how uninteresting it becomes to me after a few songs. Besides that, I love most of the album. I don't mean to sound selfish but I truly do hope that if my sis doesn't completely revert to her previous sound, that she at least finds a way to mesh her softer, poppier music with that of 'Ultraviolence's harsh and understated tones. Overall, I didn't ask for this album, but I'm glad I got it because I do enjoy it for what it's worth...I just think it could have been better.
The Essential Tracks: "Ultraviolence", "Brooklyn Baby", "Sad Girl", "Guns and Roses", "Florida Kilos"
Completely abandoning her country sound (which is fine with me), Taylor came back with a vengeance in 2014 with '1989'. I don't particularly LOVE T.Swift as an artist, but I certainly can recognize when she releases a great album, which she did. While I find a few songs to be missing something, such as fan favorites "Style" and "Wildest Dreams", the highs on the album are absolutely astounding. "Blank Space" is one of THE best pop singles released this year, and amazing album cuts like "Out of the Woods" and "How You Get the Girl" keep that consistency. In fact, there isn't a single bad or unlistenable song on the album... just a few that don't keep up with the rest. With such a hugely successful team of writers and producers behind her I figured that every song would be absolute perfect-pop ear candy, but I wasn't quite given that. Still, as I said, every song is at least tolerable and they could all honestly be singles. While I'm not 100% blown away by this album, I do enjoy it a lot and hope that next time she only continues to fine tune the great sound she already has going.
