Me:OK, I'll get right on with the Latin songs of the year. Here to help out is Julissa Bermudez. Go get em
Julissa:You know how much I love the Latin scene right? Well, here's the top 10 Latin Songs of 2008.
10. Belinda - Alguien Mas
9. Jesse & Joy - Llegaste Tu
8. Tommy Torres - Pegadito
7. Mana - Si No Te Hiberas Ido (sorry for m/s)
6. Yuridia - Ahora Entendi
5. Julieta Venegas - El Presente
4. Belinda - Utopia
3. Ednita Nazario & Natalia Jimenez - No
2. Lola - Si Me Besas
1. Belinda - Bella Tricion
Julissa:Taking us to break is the #2 here. Lola
Me:When we return, Hayden Panettiere performs and the Best New Artist is awarded. If we have time, 80-71 on the Endchart.
We'll get to the Best New Artist later on with Hayden Panettiere dropping by. First, Ashes Divide will lead off with a performance of The Stone
We'll do it this way. I will list Surprise #10 and then Disappointment #10 etc down the line, Surprises in Red, Disappointments in Blue. Speaking of Ashes Divide,
10. Ashes Divide
They broke onto the scene led by Billy Howerdel and brought us The Stone. Big hit on my chart, hit #3 and we'll see them later on the Endchart. For now they are #10 Most Surprising on the MWC
10. Leona Lewis
She was poised to have a big 2008 in her rookie season, but a couple of bad runs with Better In Time and Forgive Me, and a disaster end for Bleeding Love (which we will see coming up) hurt her and she ended up as the #10 Most Disappointing artist on the MWC in 2008.
9. Fireflight
OK seriously, who had these guys in their Fantasy Rock draft before 2008? Hardly anyone I think. They had a run like no other and provided us with some power giving themselves 4 chart appearances in 2008 including the monster hit Unbreakable which we'll also see later. Dawn, enjoy yourselves with the band's overnight success
9. Vanessa Hudgens
2008 might be a year Vanessa would like to forget. 2006 was her Breakout year, 2007 was a bit more perplexing for her and 2008 was just a disappointing year for her on the MWC. Only Sneakernight did any real damage and that fast faded. Better luck in 2009 baby V.
8. Demi Lovato
Who knew this pop-rock chick had a spunky side? From her sweet-tinged This Is Me featuring Joe Jonas, to her somewhat angst-ridden song Get Back, she nabbed 2 top 10 smashes on the MWC but had her breakout role on Camp Rock which we'll get into a bit later on this month. But 2009 could be hers, will she do it? She has 2 appearances on the Endchart.
8. Christina Aguilera
In truth really, she only had one song so it's sorta more like an asterisk here than anything...but the expectations for her on the MWC were high when the song Keeps Getting Better came out, but she could not get past #100 and faded faster than a stain on a shirt in the washer. 2009 will be different for her, but for the good or bad?
7. Eiza 'Lola' Gonzalez
Stop me if you've heard this before. A mysterious singer winds up with a monster hit. Well, that's actually not true. Eiza AKA Lola is no stranger to the stage, she stars in Lola...Erase Una Vez as Lola and her hit Si Me Besas tracked its way up the charts quickly and became a surprise hit for the Spanish singer. That of course we'll see later.
7. Rihanna
Let's be realistic here, 2008 wasn't really a great year as far as past success goes on the MWC. In 2005 she got some billing as a breakout star. 2006 saw her ride to the top with Final Goodbye, S.O.S. and Unfaithful and 2007 saw her rock to the top of the mix with Umbrella, Don't Stop The Music and Shut Up And Drive. All she really had in 2008 was DSTM and Disturbia that went top 10 and Haunted #14. Pretty rough go for her as we saw at #94 with aforementioned Disturbia. 2009 will be her 5th year in the music industry and this Techno-Rock direction is gonna make or break her on the MWC, because she let me down severely with Rehab and Live Your Life.
6. Krystal Meyers
Krystal had a surprisingly huge 2008 with Make Some Noise that topped 7 times, by far her biggest hit to-date. She has had some minor success but 2008 the MWC finally noticed her power and she managed to prosper greatly. We'll see Make Some Noise later on the Endchart, this Pop/Rock star is going Electro Kung Fu on you if you mess with her.
6. Adele
Nothing against her really, she never did any serious damage on my chart with Chasing Pavements and has struggled to do well on the MWC. I wouldn't say she's a failure, she has a good voice. It's that I just didn't like her song enough to get a feel for her.
5. Britt Nicole
Big picture here, 2008 was a huge year for first-timers on the MWC and Believe by Britt Nicole was a huge hit. She did something rare with a first-time appearance, hit #1 5 times. Believe it or not this is actually a record on the MWC for a first-time chart appearance and we'll see the massive hit later on the show. She's a singer, somewhat of a rocker, even raps too. Don't know if she plays guitar though. If you wanna know more about her, go to www.myspace.com/brittnicolemusic or visit her website too.
5. Hilary Duff
On the flip side, Hilary who was a Surprise Top 10 in 2003 is now experiencing adversity, #5 on the Most Disappointing Artists of 2008. She had the #19 song of 2007 with Stranger, but not a single song of hers did any damage and she faded so fast into somewhat of obscurity and I hope this isn't the end of Hilary. Reach Out didn't work wonders either. If Ryan says you did bad, you know he's telling the truth. Hilary, you had a 2008 to forget I think.
4. Lea Marie
Think Britt Nicole for a second, but without the attitude. Lea Marie is a more carefree version of Britt. She's actually had 5 videos. (Alex, The Player, Your Brother's Girl, Memories and the Endchart appearance of World Of Wonders) This teenage sensation. Like Britt, if you need more info go here. http://www.myspace.com/leamariemusic There's more to Lea than meets the eye and don't let her fun and carefree attitude mislead you, she's a very good singer who also plays guitar and piano, not to mention a good dancer (See the World Of Wonders video and please no Ashanti 'Rock Wit U' comparisons please, thanks)
4. Madonna
Two words, Hard Candy. She made it really difficult for her to do well on the MWC with IMO mediocre songs. 2009 could be different, you never know.
3. Valerie 'Lights' Poxleitner
Lights was the feel good story of 2008, nuff said. A massive hit with Drive My Soul that we'll see later, and the beauty she brings is great. She is a gifted singer that should be in the same discussion as some of the best singers out there right now. The voice, style, talent, guitar playing skills, keyboard skills, even her pet spider says so. Well, if spiders could talk that is. Still, Lights is one of the best singers of 2008 and I STRONGLY suggest you check her music out. www.iamlights.com
3. Beyonce Knowles
Don't even get me started on her. She just had a 2008 MWC season to forget basically with what I thought were 2 bad singles. Well, 2009 could be better so you never know.
2. Stephanie McIntosh & Natalie Grant (TIED)
For Natalie, it was a comeback for the ages. Everyone anticipated Guns N Roses, Metallica and AC/DC, but nobody anticipated Natalie Grant to bounce back with maybe one of the greatest songs to ever make the countdown in I Will Not Be Moved. This epic video scored a lot of fans of the MWC and IDRL circuits and she nabbed #1 a whopping 15 times with that song, plus a few minor hits to cement her status. Stephanie McIntosh is tied with her for a good reason, because nobody seriously expected her to dominate and again in 2008 she was on fire. More on that later.
2. Ashanti
Man, do you wanna talk 'Fall From Grace' here? She crashed and burned at the worst time with her worst year to-date on the MWC. A failed single with The Way That I Love You failed to win over her fans that were once there for her. She had a terrible 2008 on the MWC and is looking to turn it around after 3 years of frustration. Seriously, she openly told me that when she was a guest on my MWC show last month and told me, 'Mike, it's frustrating. I can't get anything going.' I don't blame you girl, it has been rough on you so much Ashanti. Still <3 you.
1. Joanna Martino
If you asked me in 2005 who she was, I would've told you 'Who in the world is Joanna Martino? Is she a business consultant?' Then when I read she was an Idol contestant I was like 'OK fine, just another run of the mill wannabe singer.' And then I hear she hosts Steelroots Top 10 Countdown and then I was like 'OK, she's not gonna last. She will be gone in 3 weeks.' Then I heard Energy and I was like 'OK, this girl is amazing. Great voice and a lovely song. A major label should sign her immediately.' And she turned that energy into a massive 2008 that included a top 15 smash for Road Less Traveled, a top 10 hit for You Call Me Beautiful, a minor hit with Right Where You Want Me, a steady-rising hit with We Shine, but the mammoth hit Energy is why she is here. This guitar playing songstress who is recently married is in the process of completing her 2nd album so stay tuned for more on that. Congratulations girl on getting the MWC #1 Biggest Surprise of 2008....even though your CD is 3 years old, still you earn it girl with your great voice. Seriously, go check her page out. http://www.myspace.com/joannamartino
1. Pussycat Dolls / Nicole Scherzinger
If you wanna talk about epic failure, it might be Nicole. But she and PCD share this here for one reason. The disappointment of Doll Domination and the 'Slow torture of when Nicole's solo album would be released.' Yeah, insert your own joke here. They are the Biggest Disappointment on the MWC of 2008.
That's a lot to digest. Didn't get enough Krystal? She's here to perform. This is Anticonformity.
Will someone tell me what Anticonformity is? After the break, Hayden Panettiere and the Best New Artist award. Keep it locked, or I'll go Jonas Brothers kung fu on you!
Mike, I don't appreciate Madonna being on the blue list
You want me to lie basically? I have to be truthful and you've heard me say this time and time again, I thought the Hard Candy era IMO was her most disappointing era to-date.
BUT, I give her the benefit of the doubt that she's had way more good songs than bad so I won't list her as one of the worst, just listing her as one of the most disappointing on my chart this year.
I only agree with Demi on the red. I disagree with everything on the blue list.
If you saw my charts, you'd probably understand why I posted those so I can't really blame you. If Leona would've done better with Better In Time, maybe she'd be in the Red list too. But because she didn't get as big of a hit as Bleeding Love, that's why she is in Blue. I recommend you check out the artists in Red and you'll understand why I chose those.
Well, like I said in a prior thread, I'm open to exploring myself to check out singers I never heard before rather than focus on the Mainstream artists and waiting for them to blossom. Hence why Joanna, Britt, Krystal, Lea, etc. are on the Red.

Her worst era, yes. But the music, no. You didn't listen to the album?
Her worst era, yes. But the music, no. You didn't listen to the album?
This is his chart....I don't see why you have to force him to put Madonna in the red. Come on! Just accept that he didn't like Hard Candy and move on.....
I don't quite agree with Rihanna or Beyonce being disappointments for 2008, but I do agree with Vanessa Hudgens, Christina Aguilera, the Pussycat Dolls, Madonna, and Hilary Duff being disappointments, in terms of past success.
I don't know about Leona Lewis though, I guess it's a toss-up or how you look at things. "Bleeding Love" was an amazing song and it dominated charts everywhere. "Better In Time" was a modest hit, and "Forgive Me" flopped.
I don't quite agree with Rihanna or Beyonce being disappointments for 2008
If you kept a real close eye on my personal charts this year which I didn't show you guys a lot of on ATRL, you'd understand why Beyonce and Rihanna didn't do well this year compared to previous years. Remember, I'm only basing this on my personal chart and nothing else.
But it's like I said, check out the Artists listed in Red and judge for yourself.
First, Hayden Panettiere rocks on with Your New Girlfriend
Now it's time for the Best New Artist award! You know what this is right? One of the Endchart's most prestigious awards. There are officially 16 nominees on this list, 16! That's a lot!
NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR:
Sara Bareilles
Leona Lewis
Kate Voegele
Britt Nicole
Joanna Martino
Pinboys
Katy Perry
Lesley Roy
Demi Lovato
Charlotte Sometimes
Theory Of A Deadman (yes, it WAS their first chart appearance ever in 2008)
Lights
Finley
Lea Marie
Eiza 'Lola' Gonzalez
Julianne Hough
Now bear in mind, all deserve massive success. There are no losers here. We'll just give you the top 5.
In 5th place with 7.5% of the votes, Lea Marie.
In 4th place with 7.8% of the votes, Demi Lovato.
In 3rd place with 12.3% of the votes, wow....Britt Nicole.
In 2nd place with 15% of the votes, Sara Bareilles.
In 1st place with 18% of the votes it''s....
LIGHTS
WINNER:Lights
It's hard to decide who had a better year between Lights and Sara Bareilles, but both knew Britt Nicole was a tough customer. Lights barely defeats Sara Bareilles thanks to the Drive My Soul video that crushed any hopes of Sara winning the Best New Artist at the 2008 Endchart MWC Awards show.
RUNNER-UP:Sara Bareilles
Sara Bareilles is a good sport though. She hit #1 7 times in 2008, just 1 fewer than Lights. They will be neck-and-neck for the top of the MWC Endchart so stay tuned. Of course, Sara actually had the big hit single in Love Song which Lights hasn't had a mainstream hit yet, but both are truly gifted singers. One big difference? Sara doesn't have a pet spider and doesn't talk about shower curtains. She does have a LOT of pianos/keyboards in her Bottle It Up video.
THIRD:Britt Nicole
Britt realistically came on strong at the wrong time with Lights and Sara Bareilles so tightly contested, there was no breathing room for Britt to take control and the fans believed in those more. Still, she hit #1 5 times which is impressive.
And that's all for now. Tomorrow, we're giving you something you never expected. The top 40 songs by Newcomer artists, 80-61 on the Endchart, Best Group of the year and the top 10 Artists to watch in 2008. Plus, we'll have performances from Shiny Toy Guns, Skillet, Slipknot's frontman returns and Paramore rocks the stage, plus we tone it down with Kenny Chesney and a guitar vocal from a mystery artist. Stay tuned for tomorrow
Well I guess Ashes Divide and Fireflight being on the "good" list is a good thing.
Of course! If I put them in the Blue would you really think I have them in my Endchart top 100? I've already done 100-81 so far, you can look back if you wish.
